Snell 95 helbets at LVD.....
For those that aren't aware, nhra changed the rule this year so that anything that is faster then 9.99 must have a full faced helmet as well, so if you have an open face one like I did, you're not using that for your single digit car, that I have confirmed with LVD's tech already when I called and asked about lic. runs.
So, a 495 dollar helmet got ordered last week, should ship to me on the 15th of this month.

one season or more) Anyway, only passing on what I was told...like they say, "If you've got a $5 head, go out and buy a $5 helmet." WJ A helmet is required for the driver of any car or truck running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and for the rider of any motorcycle. Most drivers can use a helmet meeting SNELL K98, M2000, SA2000, M2005, or SA2005 specifications. Professional category and some alcohol burning vehicles require an SA rated helmet. It is important to note that the helmet rating must be designated on a tag INSIDE the helmet, or sewn to one of the helmet straps. The designation stenciled on the exterior of the helmet is insufficient for NHRA technical inspection. Also, some tracks require a helmet on ALL drivers, so check in advance."
In 07 the tech guy at NED didn't like my circa 1982 Bell helmet. He said he might let it go if it were at least Snell 95 but technically Snell 95 is not even accepted by NHRA.
He told me to keep it slower than 14 seconds. My first pass was 12.6, but no one said a word and I made a bunch more passes. FWIW I did finally buy a new brain bucket.

Is it good? No. Will it happen everywhere at some level? Yes, unfortunately.
