What happened to the other Trans Am? Didnt like it?
All LS1s have some form of piston slap when they start up cold.... Characteristic of the engines design. I wouldnt be too worried about that. Hell, my LS6 has a slight piston slap when I dont drive it for a few weeks and start it up for the first time.
If the car runs out fine and is mechanically sound.... Go For It!!!

there are always little things with the first model year of a vehicle... 98s have different head bolt patterns which can cost you a little more $ later on if you do a head swap. but other than that, its basically the same. The water temp gauge in 98s actually works (dummy gauge in 99-02s).
I would get the car for under 7k though. I sold my Formula with 78k for 8700. It was a 99 M6 with Stage 1 LS6 heads, 224 cam with valve train, headers, true duals and other little things. The market for these cars sucks for sellers, so get the best deal possible!

Not sure if he will budge on that 7k. I thought about offering $6k. Found a few others in Maryland that I might look at as well. I can park the 'hoe and use the LS1 as my DD back and forth to Portsmouth (ship's in the yards as of the 1st).
I don't want to rush into anything and buy a turd.

Well, he won't be selling that car to anyone knowledgeable about LS1s unless he budges some. You can find better deals than that if you hold on and keep looking.
