Angry Need help on the Space Coast.

I am at my wits end about a electrical short that I have in the car, somewhere. I keep blowing the ENG SEN fuse. I have been under the hood and under the car many times. I have tided-up several wires, but to no avail.

Is anyone available on Saturday or Sunday to come over to my house and help me out? I am so pissed right now, I could spit!

I have a post over on the PCM board concerning this matter (for additional info).

What type of car? Mods? miles, and anything that you have done recently to the car.

The ENG SEN fues under the hoof only powers the heaters for the oxygen sensors and the power to the MAF sensor. So this should make the diagnosis pretty simple. In most cases it will be something in the oxygen sensor harnesses around the headers and exhaust.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the replies. I have checked the O2 harnesses very carefully, in fact, I rerouted the one on the pass side, but not where it runs between header tubes 4 and 6. Since I have installed 18" O2 extension, I will take the pass-side harness a different path around the headers. And recheck the drivers side O2 harness.

The first sign of a problem was actually the fact that it is difficult to get the gear shifter into Reverse, whats up with that? My recent codes were P102, P0803, and P0801.

See sig for car mods. The car has about 50,000 miles on it. The BIG thing is that I installed an LS2 402 stroker after blowing up my LS1 engine at a road racing drivers school. That was a very expensive school!

RsSean: I was thinking of coming over to the car cruise-in that you are setting up for this Saturday with this car. But now it seems doubtful that I can find the problem and have enough faith in the reliability of the car to make it over there and back.

Mike: I was so fustrated last weekend on this matter, that even thought of you and thinking that I should try to drive my car over to your place and drop it off.

Just rememeber that re-routing the wires may not be the cure. If the wires have gotten hot enough or chaffed enough, you may have to actually open up the harnesses and follow that wire all the way from the fuse box to each sensor to find the issue. The wire may not be shorted to ground in a "normal" sense such as a header, block or frame, but to another wire in the harness.

If you end up needing to bring it up, just let me know.

You should get a volt meter and test the ohm of the wires to the fuse box. To see if you have a open in the wire or high resistance in the line causing hte fuse to blow.

I believe O2 sensor heaters are in the 30-50 ohm range. I do
not know what the output characteristic of the heater power
pins at the PCM are, but if you measure less than (say) 10 ohms
on a disconnected sensor (subharness) then you can figure this
is telling you something. And of course you could pull the PCM
connectors, do this at the pin-pair sensor by sensor and not
have to crawl under or cut anything.

But it seems from the narrative that this is an intermittent
thing, it may require a chafed wire-pair to be wiggled just-so
or something fun like that. But you could have someone watch
the meter while you give it your best shot at perturbing the
wires and look for even a momentary "blip".

To Mike Norris:
I can not get my car started anymore. If you recall, I made a post about the ENG SES fuse blowing every time I start the engine. Well, now after searching thru the O2 wiring, trying to find the short to ground, and making numerous tidy-ups, the engine will niot continue to run. The first attempt, the engine strated and ran for about 1 minute, then quit on me. Since then, it only sputters and back-fires.

I live in Mims, how do I get my car to you?
