Default My "mini" build thread

Well, broke the rear a month back and should be getting my MWC 9" in pretty soon. Since I'll have the car apart there's a few other things I'm doing. The list is as follows: the MWC 9", kooks 1 7/8th headers, custom y-pipe...3" mandrel bend into dual 3 in 4" out flowmaster merge with DHM electric cutout and then into stock catback, abs delete, line lock, and LS6 intake. Here are some pics of the progress thus far

Intake

Headers

10 BOLT CARNAGE! (notice the first two picks...axles are pulled out and the cover isn't even off!!! C-clips??)

Now you see it

Now you don't

That's it for now. This will be my last day working on it for a few weeks since I got finals coming up this week. I'll keep updating the thread with pics as I go along!

What's wrong with stage 8? If I knew I was going to be doing the header install by myself I would've spent the money on ARP studs. Wasn't too bad though, got the headers up there then used the secondary jack on the lift to hold them up to the right height to put the bolts in. The stops and c-clips weren't that bad to put in at all. The only complaint I have is that they are 11mm and stock was 10mm. I had a 10mm ratcheting wrench, but not an 11mm.

Anyways, taking a quick food break. Here are some more pics of what else I've done today.

ABS is gone, SJM kit w/ line lock in its place!

Cleaned out the intake valley area, will button up the top end after some food.

Next up will be removing the calipers for some powder coating!

Haha, every time I post a pic of the engine bay I get that response. The car was a Canadian car (hence all the rust you see under the car and of the 10 bolt housing). Came complete with block heater, km/h gauge, and that undercarriage coating you see in the engine bay. I tried getting it off one day by dousing the engine bay in degreaser and the result is what you see. I got most of it off, but some was left behind and being really stubborn. Whenever the engine gets pulled is when I will REALLY clean it all up.

Sold it back in august of '08. Just got married and we bought a house. Had payments on the SS so it had to go. Looked for two months for a new car. My wife worked about an hour from home so I was looking for an economical but fun car. But a month and a half into looking for a car she got transferred in town...10 minute drive....so she could keep using her explorer. A week after that I found this car minutes after being posted and bought it the next day in cash. Was a weird path of events, but it turned out for the best.

Thanks. As for the rust looking stuff, read post 5 for the explanation.

And that's exactly what the extra bung is for!!!

Ya, things always break and go wrong when doing car work. That panhard bolt is a prime example! Thanks for stopping by and looking "outside the box" for me, lol. Anyways, I was told I'd get the rear end last Friday if fedex came and picked up the box from MWC last Wednesday. Apparently that didn't happen, I'm guessing due to the Holiday weekend. Either way, It should be here sometime this week, but I'm swamped with finals. I got a few days in between each one, but I got to use that time to study for them!

Ok, here's pic of the engine bay when I first got the car last year.

As you can see that coating covered everything. I've made a pretty big dent in it as far as I can with just using degreaser. I'm not sure of what else to use that won't take off the paint under it too. I figured I'll just leave it until I need to take the engine out for whatever reason. Then I'll strip it down and repaint.
