Guys, customer did not want a $7000 subframe, ok? This will suit him and HIS wants and needs just fine. I never disagreed with anything said, and understand that there is always something bigger, better, faster, etc. Give me a break.

Thanks...

Again, we're staying in line with his budget, his want for a power rack (not a pro touring subframe) and what we thought would be the best to suit his wants and needs. Now let me get back to work please

[QUOTE=RichieFlorida;14861982]Good Luck with your project. I remember when my car looked like this and I thought I would neer finish. It was worth the effort.

I'm not telling you to go high dollar, I'm trying to explain to you that installing a rack on a stock subframe will change the Ackerman angle, the front end geometry and will cause bumpsteer problem with every day driving, driving down the road hitting a man hole cover, the front end will bounce back and forth, this is it for me, go to work!

but all the red looks great, post more pics,

so long as the tie rod geometry is parallel to the lower control arm, it will have very minute bump steer. the ackerman angle is more controlled by the steering knuckle where the tie rod connects to it. seeing as you are going to be using the stock ones, that is not changing there. when you are done with it, give me a ring to get the alignment done. you can visit my website and see some of the vehicles i've done. and there will be plenty of members here to support that.

Did more today- power steering pump and brackery is back from chroming- looks killer- a lot custom touches in this build- mostly josh's and my ideas we took from our own rides over the years. You'll notice that a lot of cars we have here get some unique, off the wall parts that are really neat...

On that note, stay tuned to our newest shop car build- my 65 Buick. Air ride stuff just showed up today

You get bumpsteer from having the steering links anything other than parallel with the suspension arms, correct? Now wouldn't simply changing the knuckles to attach at a lower position (to compensate for the rack being too low) correct the bumpsteer issue? That would explain why the rack came with knuckles to attach to the spindles. Correct me if I'm wrong. (It could be simply to compensate for the fact that '69 camaros had three different knuckle lengths, depending on which steering box came in the car.)

there are two parallels that need to be correct. the higher/lower as you asked, and the parallel distance from the arm to the tie rod from inner to outer.

Gotcha. The tie-rods are too short on the rack.. Given, stock firstgen front suspension sucks from the factory, mine bumpsteers pretty bad, even with ATS spindles and drag-link setup. I have a 1989 WS6 box in mine, 2.5 lock to lock, and it's great, but I wouldnt mind losing the heavy SOB.

SO I have neglected this thread a bit...and am to f/n busy to be honest to update it as much as I should...

Anway, got the car driving around and H-O-L-Y crap it's awesome...

Extensive modification was needed in many areas to get her going, but man it's nice...

Especially that rack and front steering everyone was doubting - BEST PART.

Pics to come when I can.
