Good deal man. Yeah I was intimidated at first when I did new head gaskets and my cam swap. But like you said the right tools and patients, its pretty simple.

What did you guys use to hold the lifters in place? I know one of the sponsors makes a "tool" if you even want to call it that, lol, and they sell it for $80+

I figured getting down in there to the back of engine would be tough.

Ahhhh.... WHAT!?

Doing a cam swap has nothing to do with the back of the engine. What are you talking about?

Flexible magnet thru front opening of oil pan?

Seriously, 5/16 dowel rods work perfect.... Oh well. Lesson learned.

I used a ton of pen magnets to hold up the lifters. Just stuck them down through the pushrod holes and rested them on the cylinder head.

If you're a man, you'll give the cam a quick spin and pull her out. Lifter trays hold the lifters in place. You immediately put the other cam in. We've NEVER had a problem, but then again that's why we get paid to do it.

Not a bad idea...but what happens one day when those wimpy *** pen magnets lose a head? Now you're pulling a head off to retieve the head of the magnet stuck to the lifter plunger...OUCH!

Even the JRP tools suck - they barely fit. Just let the trays do their job.

I'm glad i'm not a real man and went with the dowels instead because I just couldn't get one lifter to stick. For 2 dollars at the local hardware store, you cant beat them.

Couldn't agree more. I used the dowels and sharpened one end of each to a point so they slid in easier.
