Default F-Body Engine Swap needed in South FL

I am planning an engine swap in my 98 TA (LS3 stoker for the original LS1). Any recommendations for a good shop to do the swap in the Northern part of Palm Beach County (West Palm area)?

Lashway Motorsports. They're in Pompano but it is more than worth the extra travel time. Great group of guys, very professional.

Why are you swapping an LS3 stroker for an LS1? Is the LS3 blown? What is it stroker to?

How much are you expecting to pay for this?

I've been mulling doing the swap myself despite not having an ideal environment at home, because I was quoted a good bit for someone else to do it.

I'm not sure if one should tackle this swap as their first experience.. It isn't too hard to complete but it is not as straight forward as say an lq9/4 based swap.
Lot of small things add up REAL quick as well.

I am doing a 408 with an ls3 top end for this reason alone.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstand his question. I thought he meant the physical engine replacement. Ie pull the old one out, put the new one in.

Yea.. With an lq9 based motor, it is more or less a "bolt in" swap. Use your accessories and sensors and you are good to go.

An Ls3 based motor, quite a few changes must take place before you actually can install it. To me, it wasn't worth the time or money for an l92/ls3 setup.. I can go with a completely forged 408 for just a tad more money. Sure it weighs a bit more but I also have the capability of reliably spraying the house down.

Right, I understand there's a differences. It's one of the reasons I steered away from ls3 motors as well, but.. is he asking to pay for the conversion? or just the physical pull out/drop in or both?

I was quoted $2000 to pull my old broken down ls1, another $2k to put the other one back in. I'm wondering if this is unusual cost wise for an Fbody engine swap, even if it's a drop in GMPP ls1 crate motor.

$2000 to do the whole job seems about right but $2000 to take it out and $2000 to put it back is a Joke !!!!!!!

I got the impression he wanted all work done.

WOW!! 4K$ to pull an ls1 and put another one in its place!?!? That seems UNREAL to me. Granted, we do all our own work but I can't see a shop charging that... Not even on the high side.

You can pull an ls1 motor in a garage with nothing more than a few jack stands/jack and a cherry picker. 6 hours if you take your time depending on what you pull off.

Hell, I would be tickled if someone paid me 1,000$ to do that swap.. I pulled my buddies blown ls1 by myself and helped with about half the install of his lq9..... For free. Granted, I wouldn't do that for anyone but it isn't difficult or anything.

I would think 2$K through a shop, max, would be about right... But again, I have NO idea what shops charge.

yea.. that's kinda what I thought.

$2k still seems like too much to me tho. Whole motor didn't cost that much.

I guess if I'm gonna do it I'll have to try to do it in the garage.

PM sent...
$2000 is steep unless that includes tuning, and other modifications required. We've swapped a ton of engines in and out of f bodies. I think we could do it in the dark lol.

Let us know if we can help.

Label all your bolts etc... It really is a very straight forward swap.
