Default Lakeland Dragstrip

Guy at advanced auto tonight told me that Lakeland was being shut down becuase lightning hit about a week ago or so and fried all the electrical wiring, etc.... Said the owner wasnt going to fix it either....is this true or BS.

Just brought home my new street/strip car tonight and that would suck if it shut down completely...I just want some TNT time to get it all worked out.

Anyone wanna buy a NICE 97 T/A ?? Need the $$$ for this one now.

I didn't hear anything about a lightning strike, but I heard it was being closed and sold off for land development.

I just checked their website and they said that due to damage to the electical system all drag racing events, etc. are closed until further notice...who knows, maybe he will sell it because of this.. plus its just a matter of time before development takes the rest of Sunshine.

Does anyone remember the dragstrips in Tampa? There was one at 579 and I-4 and the other was in Northwest Hillsborough County (now a sports park).

I heard rumor...and just a rumor, that the owner of BMP was offered money for the land but turned it down.

I think I will move to Wyoming and build my own...lol

I have heard the rumors for years and years Paula...so we shall just wait and see.

Hate sounding like a pessimist, but I believe in 5-10 years we will have to go to Orlando, Immokolee, or Gainesville to run on a dragstrip....Wish someone would buy it and save it.

There probably wont be anymore drag strip built in polk county, to much developement and they will never zone for it unless you got some cash to get a rezone, as for Lakeland, he only paid about 500k for it in 1992 according to the tax records !

I thought lakeland was pretty good. Just set up and get a few passes was nice. Not very long lines and that sure beats the hell out of OSW.

I know Moroso doesn't gain favors around here much, but they will likely not close either anytime in the near future due to being in the Pratt 4 mile noise circle restriction thus allowing them to continue racing into the wee hours (like 3-4 am at times).

I hope BMP doesn't shut down, I keep hearing rumors about it as well. Sunshine has their death warrant, they are just avoiding the reaper as long as possible.

This is kinda my 2cents on this one.

Everyone knows the street racing scene in FL is pretty big. To many ppl have died from racing. You would think the Goverment would step in and either pick up a track. Or build a new track. I would think they would have the power and the money to do it.

Just sell the red car, with all of the money you have in it you could buy Gainsville Raceway!
