+1 for Transmission Physicians. Right now we are building my 98 Trans Am. It is my car but its kinda going to be considered their shop car. We are going to build an eight second 4L60e car. SBC with a big single turbo. Looking for 1200 hp.
Fernando and Chris from TP are the ONLY guys I know who can build a 4l60e that can last. They have many many 10 seconds 4l60es with zero problems.

But if you MUST have a 3 speed, I would go with the 400. It will be just as expensive after you buy a new driveshaft, cross-member, shifter, torque converter, and have a custom base built to hold the shifter. Only bad thing is... In my personal opinion... it sucks to drive on the street. I don't personally care for a motor spinning a million rpm's to go 45 mph. If it's a drag race car only, it fine. For the street I don't like it. That's just a personal opinion.

my 4L60e went 1.4 60' times and 10 second passes all day on nitrous smacking it out of the hole every time.
