Default OSW what hooks better?

For those with actual experience would a set of Nitto 555's or a set of basic Eagle/BFG/Toyo street tires hook better at the track?size of the tire for any of them would be 285/40/18

Well from as best of experience as I can give you I was at the track the other day with a pair of sumitumo's (one of the worst tires you can get) I was hooking better than my friend with a z28 on nitto's. Same tire size. My car was faster both e/t and mph. However, I still think the nitto's will hook better with proper driving because he has a lead foot and just floors it the whole way down the track.

Both our cars make about 400rwhp

here is the deal
my car
2.1 60'
12.3
119

his car
2.2 60'
12.9
112

I was launching soft to save the 10-bolt. He was launching hard because he doesn't care haha. Anyhow he spun through first and then shifted and of course spun some more. I didn't spin out of the start. I spun a little going into second and then at the top of second and from the beginning through the mid of third.

Both running 315/35/17 sized tires

i've ran the M/T and bfg drag radials... so far the bfg's are lasting me longer. my car is more of a weekend driver. they both hook on the street pretty close to one another, but i like the bfgs b/c they are lasting longer

BFG 315's will hook better than Nitto by far been there done that. This is a 315 BFG drag radial these will not last as long as the Nitto but will hook much better on the street or track.

I've seen people get a good improvement with M/T's over BFG. Some are impartial, but BFG always seemed to be the popular favorites judging from countless of threads in here before.

im on the 10 bolt and it gets driven whenever/wherever including in the rain so im trying to stay away from a DR so i dont risk getting stuck somewhere.im happy if i can get the car to cut a 1.9 60'.Just curious if a nitto would hook better than a regular street tire.

no offense your wanting too much..

if it works in the rain it isn't going to be a great track tire and vice versa..

and you won;t be running a 285 nothing it will be a 275-40 or a 295-35 both will fit 100% on your wheels.. 285-40 is a porsche size and because of that are overpriced

wow.. then i should probably go take them off my car.. they'll never work..

oh and the 03 cobra guys put 315's on a 9.5.. doesn't mean its perfect..

and to say as a blanket statement that a 295 won't fit is a load of crap.. this is the 2nd set i have had on these wheels..

theres over 1" of difference between nitto and bfgs in the 295.. so which one doesn't fit cause i can gauruntee you they do..

according to most manufacturers and the mod of the wheels and tires section Xsta Z 28 the minimum SAFE width for a 295 is a 10" wheel.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ght=295+9.5%22

some are doing it and others wonder why their tires disintegrate. If you check Toyo's own website they say a 295 requires a 10" wheel

define safe??

i dunno i go off what works for me.. not what i read..

i've got multiple vette's running around town on 295's

guess i should tell them to come back..

oh wait thats what GM performance recomends to them..

hmmmm

oh and the toyo dealer catalog right here infront of me sais 295's are from a 9.5-11.5 wheel.. would you actually run a 295 on a 11.5 wheel?? NO

10-11 is for "optimum" section width

now we get to go into how 295 has nthing to do with how wide a tires tread is.. its all about section width and aspect ratio..

"wait what did he just say??"

quotes staright from your thread

A 10 inch wheel is recommended for the 295 but I have had them on a 9.5 and have had no problem.

I have 275-35-18s on my 18x9.5s. They seem a LITTLE stretched. A 285 would probably be perfect, and a 295 might bulge a little.

oh and for that pewter camaro guy up there your cars slow..

now tune my truck
LMAO
