Default My Engine Committed Suicide Yesterday - RIP

Yesterday, my engine unfortunately decided to take it's own life.
RIP 2/23/07 - 6/3/07

Background:
I had been replacing my brake rotors, pads, and putting in SS lines. The car had been on jackstands for 5 days because when I first started I didn't have the right tools for the job and was attempting to use crescent wrenches for everything. Then I had to work 4 days in a row. Well I went into work at the wrong time yesterday so I decided to finish it up. I finished everything, cleaned the brakes off and, bled them. I put the wheels back on, let it down, then torqued the lug nuts to 100ft-lbs.

I go to start it up to break in my brakes when CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK BOOOOM! My dad was down at the end of the street and heard it. It was so loud my neighbor came out to see what was going on. I immediately had a painful suspicion of what this was and bent over to look under my car and saw this:

Needless to say I'm rather heart broken. I'd been saving all my money for 5 years to get a LS1 powered Fbody. I finally got one on 2/23/07 three days after my birthday and a little over 3 months later it kills itself. I haven't jacked it up to look at it yet as I had to go to work about 30 minutes after this happened and didn't get home until 11:15pm. If you look at the third picture though it kind of looks like there's a chunk of connecting rod sticking out on the right or maybe that's just more of the block?

Because of this I probably won't be seeing some of you guys for quite a while. No more Sonic or get togethers for a little while. I'm going to start fixing my Camaro tomorrow with my friend. It's going to be a pain in the ***, but it will be worth it to have 1/2 cars actually be able to move under their own power.

Anyone know what the hell would cause something like this? It didn't leak any oil and I just changed it out about a month ago with German Castrol. The car was level on the jackstands and never on a slope. It did rain really hard on Saturday because of that tropical storm that came through. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows of a place or someone locally that's selling a shortblock preferably a ls2 or lq4/9 let me know.

Thanks,
Tyler

The 18 extra cubes doesn't make up for the hundred pounds weight on the nose. Stick with the AL.
How many miles on the car?

That sux dude, don't give up on it, that motor had a bunch or miles on it and the last owner sprayed it with an unknown shot of juice, so I wouldn't give up on LS1's so build yourself a fresh one and you'll be better off.

umm hundreds? They weigh 80 pounds more then the aluminum block, and yes the iron block can make up for that easily.

126k. I'd like to find a LS2 shortblock. I found one now, but its kind of expensive and needs a rebuild. The main problem is that I don't have a lot of money right now. Someone local made me a really good deal on a 408 shortblock minus pistons, rings, and bearings. I'd like to get that, but it's too much $$$.

I do think someone was spraying a dry shot on it. Before I got it. It had a thread tapped in the stock lid, a WOT switch, and electrical connectors on the battery.

If your engine sucked water into it during the rain, you might have hydro-locked it.

But I have a sneaky suspicion you did something. Did you over-rev it? Was the engine warm before you romped on it?

I said hundred, not hundreds. And no, 18 cubes alone doesn't make up for it, the car will be slower. Now if you want to modify the 6.0 iron, like with a 4 inch crank and some good heads... thats a whole new ballgame.

No, it didn't even start. I had just set it down off of the jack stands and torqued the lug nuts. I got in to move it and it just clunked and blew. It never turned over, just 2/3 clunks and a BOOM!
