Gainesville is a college town, so for the most part there are quite a few bars with nice scenery inside.
If that's not really your scene, you've got TnT at Gainesville Raceway (right near the airport) on Wed Nights and Saturdays. As mentioned also, there are meets at the Ale House on Archer Rd (near I-75) on Thursday nights. Some nice cars, some crappy cars, some imports. Usually there is a little bit of something for everyone.
The group there is a little 'clicky,' but if you introduce yourself and talk to them, they'll usually warm up to you.
Also, don't forget the best part about Gainesville. In about a month FOOTBALL SEASON starts! That's when the true colors (and characters) come out. Absolute entertainment wherever you go, whether you're at the game in the stands, a bar, or at home.

Not many cruisin spots, as the police can be a pain. We used to cruise a few years back but not much interest plus law enforcement problems caused mainly by imports brought that to an end.
There's a show every second Saturday at Publix on 39th just east of I-75. More older cars, but can be a good mix. The show gets bigger during the cooler months, and they have a big show the Saturday of Gatornationals weekend. There are also a few shows in Ocala (about 30-45 minutes south of Gainesville) during each month.

My car puts 382hp to the ground and can't get nowhere near 11's...
Then again, I'm new at this drag racing stuff.

Show is 6pm-10pm I believe.
382 rwhp should net 11s easy with traction and an efficient drivetrain. I was going 11.60s in crappy air with my 3500 lb Nova making 362 rwhp.

I love going to the Sports Authority on SR200. Makes me feel 100% better about myself without fail.

Gainesville is pretty fun once you get to know everyone. I used to think it sucked for cars as well, but then I went to the Ale house one night and met the right people. I have gone every chance I get ever since. The best thing about the Ale House club is the lack of biased opinions. Everyone there is pretty much open to any car, performance oriented, even if it didn't come from the factory with performance in mind.
Ignore the ricers that sit farthest from the road.

There used to be racing out in the ocklawaha area quite a few years back. I haven't really checked it out to see if it still happens ever since I started college. Nissan.....how'd you get a 12.5 out of that run....major turbo lag or bad launch? I'm running 12.7's and 12.6's at 107-108 mph. Once I'm done I should be pretty damn close to 120mph in the 1/4!....then it's time for some juice.
