Default Just Got a BS Citation!

Sorry if this is slightly long, it really is a great story though.

I work at a restaraunt out @ Disney's Boardwalk. My serving section tonight was outside so I got sent home due to the rain which was fine with me, I made m money for the day.
So I leave and go to the hess real quick to grab a bag of chips and a vitamin water. I park next to the store but not at a pump and like ive done tons of times before leave my car running since ill only be in for a minute. Pay for my stuff and walking out notice a O.C.S.D. officer standing next to my car. Im thinking he was checking it out, wanted to talk cars or ask me bout it or something. Asks if its mine, I say yea. Asked me if anyone was in it, i say no. "Youre not worried bout it getting stolen?" "Not really, Im at Disney"
So then he goes on to tell me bout how its a citation for leaving the vehicle running while unattended. By this time Im laughing. I think this guy is seriously just joking around.
So then he starts looking at my tint. Im like its factory. Hes like no way. "I went to a Jaguar dealership especially to have this tint put on. Its from a dealership." So he keeps looking through it, Im telling him its the black interior that makes it look darker too. Of course he has his lil tint meter with him, puts it on and says nope, its illegal.
So Im like this is BS. I had no clue you cant leave your car running and the tint is from a dealership, leave me alone. Then he asks for my lisence and registration. I figure he just wants to make sure Im legal. I get it and then hes like so which one do you want? Theyre both non moving violations. Im like are you f'in serious!??! "How bout no ticket? Thats crap?" He's like "I have two citations right infront of me, I have to write something. Ill choose if you want."

So I ended up taking the damn leaving the car unattended ticket for a mere $78.50 since that would be easier to fight than the tint and having to waste my $400 tint job by a judge saying take it off anyways.

Last thing I said to the officer was:
"So do I really have to worry bout you messing with me and pulling me over on another day for my tint since Im not getting that ticket today?"
His response:
"Maybe, you never know if Ill see you again or want to give you the ticket."

This is the most BS Ive ever had to deal with from a cocky cop!

You're the same guy that will be crying when you're car is stolen from in front of the store that you were just running into real quick. You were in violation of 2 infractions, stop crying. Be lucky you only got 1 citation. We're not stupid, just because you brought you're car to a delaership doesn't mean your tint is legal, give me a break. You know damn well you're tint isn't legal, any tint place will give you whatever you want.

For those that can't pay attention to detial, he said it was an OCSD (Orange County Sheriff Department) Deputy that he was dealing with, NOT a Disney cop, which have full police powers anyhow.

Maybe you shouldnt open your mouth and blab to him. You dont have to answer their questions. I dont talk to police ever unless im saying "Excuse me officer am I being detained or an I free to go". Keeping my mouth shut has kept me out of a lot of trouble. l

I don't know which one makes you look more like a dumbass.........

1) Leaving your car running while unattended or......

2) Paying $400 to tint three windows.

3) All of the above.

I'll go with number three.

If you would have just taken the tint ticket it would have been $40.00.

Everyone who knows me knows I'm not a fan of cops but in this case I just can't find a reason to feel sorry for you.

How ******* lazy do you have to be to not turn the car off?

I could see if the car had a starting issue, but in that case common sense would kick in and I would just drive the car home and pass on the vitamin water and chips.

The fact that you were on Disney property doesn't mean you are immune from crime of theft, there's no imaginary line that keeps the criminals out.

Greg_00SS: Im not stupid either. I know where not to leave my car running while I run inside. At a hess on disney property is not someplace Im worried about some idiot trying to jack my car, especially with how many cameras are around. Is it a safe thing to do, no. But sometimes its better than wasting the gas to restart the car after only a minute. As for it being an offense to do that, I still cant believe its against the law to leave you car running while you run inside, thats just....silly lol.

As far as the tint goes, when I went to the dealership, I asked if it was a legal percent, they said yes. I didnt ask exactly what percent it was, dont care. its the best damn tint ive ever had, and it works perfect here in FL. And again, I went to the dealership, they did it. I didnt ask for anything specific.

But what I find funny is how uptight and defensive you get. You arent the cop that wrote me the citations, you arent on duty right now, and yet youre still getting that upset. Shows how cops can get so defensive so fast. Ive said this countless times on here before, and Ill say it again, I respect cops, they do a lot of good. But, because of cops like the one tonight and the last one I ran into, are the reason I didnt become one, or else Id be in the police academy right now.

You guys are completely misunderstanding this. The thread title is I cant believe this BS ticket. Me leaving MY damn car running isnt under review, thats my choice to make. What I made this thread about is how is there a low saying that its illegal for me to leave my car running while I go inside for a minute? Its certaintly not something Ive heard of before.

If I had taken the tint ticket, its a fix it ticket. which means I would have to take my tint off, show an OCSD officer and then go pay $xx.xx dollars for all the whatever fees. Then Im left without tint. I think taking the other ticket is a lil better off for now.

And again, its a waste of gas to turn off my car to run inside while Im a mere 10' away from my car for 1min. Its not lazyness.

I dont want sympathy, i wanted to rant about some BS law that I got **** for tonight. Ill deal with it, I dont care. Its a nonmoving violation so who the f' cares.

this is the most asinine statement i have ever read/heard. honestly i hope you are joking. they're are a lot of police officers that have too much time on their hands and find anything they can to ticket you...all to meet that quota. but if you're not doing anything illegal to begin with you should have nothing to worry about. next time something happens to you or anyone you know don't call the blue guys.

and to the original poster, sorry bro but ignorance of the law is no excuse and a judge will not care whether or not you have heard the law or not.

Careful....some of your brothers here on ls1tech might be law enforcement officers . And to the OP....you are not immune from crime no matter where you are. Just took a report two weeks ago of a guy that went into the convienent store "for just a minute" and came out missing a car. This was in one of the better areas of my area too. The traffic infraction was made due to an increasing number of stolen vehicles in this type of situation. There are actually car theives that do nothing but ride around in two man crews in gas stations waiting for moments like these.

At least you can learn from this and will not leave your car on next time! I agree with you, disney is a "safe" place, but you never know... they could steal your car and hop on I-4 which is 3min away.

WOW sounds like you got off easy. If someone took your car and reported it to your insurance and told them that you left it running while in the store you would be out of a car with no help from a cop or your insurance. They would have been like its your own falt for leaving the keys in the car. Well you could have lied and told the cops you were car jacked but the cameras would have disproved that.

Trust no one.

Wow. I had no idea it was illegal to leave my car running while I go into a store for a gatorade. I don't think I've shut my car off to run into a convenience store ever in the 8 years I've been driving.

You're wrong, a fix it ticket for tint is $9.00 and you have to remove the tint then have a cop sign off on it. If you want to keep the tint you would just pay $40.00.

I went through this when I got pulled over a while back, the cop asked if I wanted a fix it ticket or the standard ticket for the tint. I took the $40.00 ticket and figured it was cheaper than paying another $120.00 to re-tint the windows again.

I've done some work with Disney security. It's not as insulated from crime as some seem to believe!

That's another one I see often. People leaving doors unlocked just because it's at home.
