Default Aps guys should I ceramic coat my exhaust manifolds?

Thinking of getting this done if the shop can get them back to me fast.like within a few days.Would I still need to run the heat shields also. How much cooler will the ceramic coating make things. Will it effect the ability to seal to the turbo.or dont' they coat the flange areas? Never coated anything before.

Yes! They rust just like the factory ones do. I didn't think anything about it when they were new and shiny but I sure notice it now. Coat them, you'll be glad you did.

had mine coated by Jet-hot,cost me all of $125 is remember correctly...well worth it. brings temps down in the engine bay and like SStolen stated, will prevent them from rusting. i still ran the heat shields anyway to give it a factory appearance.

Got mine last fall and yeah there is rust alread forming on them. Just sitting there in my garage.
But its a devils choice for me. Wait maybe two weeks for them to come back from shop and maybe don't get to drive my car at all this season .I guess could possibly take them off again over winter but its not that fun to get them off I don't think..would have to drop the kmember ? although that could be pretty easy with my cherry picker or just holding the engine up from the pan. You guys with dud turbos how hard was it to take one out?

I did the manifolds and the impeller housings of both turbos. VERY glad I did it. I didn't even bother with the heat shields.

Not sure about aps turbos. On my turbo the hot side, is cast, i had it ceramic coated black, but the charge side i had powder coated black, since i couldn't have it ceramic. Can kinda get the idea from the pic. I also had my manifolds ceramic coated.

How is the powder coating holding up to the heat on the charge pipe and down pipe? Was it a special type of powder used in the coating or just the standard?

Yes, wish I would have thought of this beforehand. They will rust otherwise.

There are powders that are good to 1000 degrees, but the color selection is pretty basic. Charge pipe should always be no problem, most powders have a service temp of 350 degrees.

Good to know. I like the basic blacks and grays. Mo need for the fancy colors IMO.

Only thing i had powder was the charge side of the turbo. It has not had any issue. I went with the flatest black he could do.
