Default LS3/L92 head gasket?

I heard the LS3/L92 is a really good MLS head gasket. It has 5 layers of steel instead of 3 like the 6.0L head gasket. Will this head gasket work on my LS1? Its a 3.905 bore. I have the 6.0L head gaskets but Im trying to lower my compression alittle more by using the L92 head gaskets. Thanks...

Well it must work because cometics are 4.165 bore and they recommend them for LS1 and LS2 engines. The LS3 head gasket is a 4.100 bore.

It's the 6.2L 5-layer MLS gasket that quite a few people have used, and it has a 4.100" bore.

I'm not sure about your application, but there are some other posts around here discussing where that gasket has been used with success.

Are you guys talking about GM #12610046? I just ordered a set, .051" thick, 4.080" max bore. 5-layer MLS like the previous 6.0 (3-layer), and great for boost, which is why I got a set.

Ive got a set of the 6.0L MLS head gaskets. They have been bolted down one time with about 50 miles on them. Im thinking about spaying alittle copper seal on them and reusing them. Do you think this is a bad idea?

Thanks

For the money? Those 6.0 MLS gaskets are cheap dude, and usually in stock at the dealer. They're less than $50 for a set. I mean, I'm sure you could get away with it, but on a FI setup, is it worth the pain in the *** later?

+1

Why take a chance used gaskets? Especially on a boosted engine.

So, the 5-layer LS3 gasket is .051" thick while the 3-layer LS1 gasket is .054" thick? Is that right? Sounds off.
