GOING AUTO

Like many others I had dreams of a quick six speed car, and like those same people and that same dream went out the window in a cloud of clutch smoke.

I had been doing a lot of reading about putting a 4l80 in the car the past few months. I even got a price on one a few days before my clutch failed (jinxed myself). The parts started showing up last Friday. I pulled the t56 out Monday and installed the auto tonight. I used to think the six speed was heavy, HA. This thing is a tank, then I put the converter on it. Went in easier than I thought for doing it by myself in the driveway.

Jake's Performance 4l80 with a transbrake

Yank PY3600

Yank crossmember, it was a very close fit maybe 1/32"-1/16"

B&M cooler 70297

B&M Quicksilver

In addition to this I also ordered
Wolfe 6 point weld in
Corbeau Forza 2 seats
New carpet
RJS 5 point harness

I will probably try to start that install next weekend.

If I buy beer and pizza, can I just hang out with you? Not a Camaro guy but I love your car. Amazing work. I still surprise myself when I change out plugs and nothing explodes.

are you going to use that for the transmission cooler ?

i got the same cooler, but i will be using it to cool engine oil not transmission

the inlet/outlet on mine are -10 and i think that is a little too big for a tranny cooler

- 6 should be plenty

I'm using 3/8 barb x 1/2 npt fittings. I'm trying to mount it now, bending flat bar to make the bracket is taking some trial and error.

I know about how much I have spent on parts, I couldn't imagine what the labor bill would be.

The only time I had it dyno'ed was about a year ago at Triangle because I knew something wasn't right. It only made 530rwhp on their mustang dyno and fell off fast above 6k. It went 10.61 at 131 at that power level though.

A car putting down 800 on their dyno has got to be a bad bitch, that thing is not numbers friendly. I'm sure I will swing out to Kohls sometime soon.

just got done reading the whole thread. great job!! i cant wait to tear into mine(99zM6)in a month or so. ive been reading all the turbo threads(cant get enough!) and ive been leaning towards a DIY build like 1badls1's build. Or even startin out with an ebay kit.but after this thread i mite try to get josh's kit(instead of buildn my yota), idk yet.only thing im worried about is tuning, i live in oregon and tuners are few and far between. and i dont think im smart enough to learn hp tuners. lol. i heard that tom wong out of Vancouver WA is a badass but he doesnt hav a website.is there any other good tuners in oregon or N cali?.........Anyways,got alittle off topic,
badass build sluggish!! keep us posted!

Put the Strange slip yoke on my DS today and almost ripped off my thumb nail in the process, lol. I had to take a flap wheel to the holes to make the U-joint caps fit but the finally went on.

But of course I have ran into another potential problem. I think my DS is to short.

I also tried to bolt up the stall to flex plate but it looks like I am going to have to remove the down pipe so I can torque it down. After I took off my old slip yoke my friend notice something funny about it. Notice something not right about the splines. It was hard to catch with the camera but the splines are twisted.

Also have a 4l80 trans question that maybe able to be answered here before I make a thread in the auto section. What size and thread count is the nut that goes on the gear selector shaft?

This auto swap giving more **** then anything I have ever done to the car. I already had to pull the trans back out twice, once to cut on the tunnel the other to fix the threads on the stall I almost stripped out. My exhaust hits the trans pan so I will need to rework that. I think the DS is going to be to short. I was a cheap *** and ordered a Hughes dip stick tube thinking I could bend it and make it fit like MightyMouse did and save $30 bucks, 2 hours later it is bent to hell and still doesn't fit. **** me running.

lmao dude that reminds me of the time me and a buddy of mine pulled the heads off his mustang.. that was a bitch too, because we didnt have a lift to deal with the exhaust, just jacks and jackstands...anyway we couldnt get the damn pipe off between the exhaust manifold and x pipe, so we had to cut it and pull the whole damn piece out. on top of that we forgot to put the oil tube back in with the head, otherwise its impossible (as far as I know), unless maybe you take off the exhaust manifold. we had to heat it up and bend it around all weird and retarded.... definately a learning experience the first go-round.

anyway.. /threadjack.
