I am thinking of custom making a rear mount turbo kit, has anyone done this? Any pictures of the set up, any pointers?

I did, and if I had to do it all over, I would've fabbed a front mount. Like ^ said, you scrape everything, and the scavenge pump is loud as ****.

At first I thought the rear mounts were better for the street than the front mounts due to all of the heat created by turbos, however the biggest complaint with rear mounted turbo systems is the oiling systems.

If you ever have a pump failure, you'll more than likely blow the seal on a rear mounted turbo. I like that the front mounted systems use a gravity drain.

It's one less thing to go wrong.

Just pick up some rods from your local muffler shop and bend them in the direction they need to go to mock it up, that's what I did. Worked out PERFECTLY. PS - charge pipe works better UNDER the rear end, going over, the bend usually tends to let the coupler blow off and it's a pain in the *** to get back together.

+1 on lose the headers... Manifolds will work SOOO much better for your rear mount.

if his car is a 99 it has those stainless steel manifolds and not the cast iron ones. dont think it makes much of a diff. however

Yes you can, and when you do, they're a pain in the damn *** and have to be rebuilt. You need a pressure regulator if at the turbo you're seeing silly oil pressure. Also, run a good sized line for the return (-10an will suffice) and make sure there are no bends upward in it.

The LT are not as well insulated as the cast manifolds to keep the heat in.
