Default Rings...

Alright, if you had to choose between these two rings, which would you buy and why?

1. Speed Pro Hell Fire rings $180
2. Total Seal AP Gapless Top $370

This is for my 370" Single Turbo (20+ psi)

Thanks!
Ryan K.

IMO, you would be wasting money on gapless anything. A Hellfire top has proved itself many times over in high HP applications.

I would NOT run gapless on a FI application.

We run a stainless top ring (usually standard wiseco rings) with alot of boost setups. After that we goto a hellfire or custom ring set

See, I heard the opposite. I'm not running a gapless set in my 408 either.

We've used both with good results. Mark switch to a gap less ring and the car picked up 2" of vacuume at the finish line. Car ran 6.40 @224 I think personally they helped performance.

Probably like most things, its all in setting what you're using up right. Bought Hellfire's for my 403 build. My machinist told me to just make sure you have it ready to drive when you fire it up. That no load stuff wont let any ring seat right.

Hellfire rings are lot easier on the bores then AP rings, but don't count out plasma moly rings either, 1,000rwhp I would use them, if you're burning the moly off theirs something else going on.

I went with hellfires and only have maybe 300 or 400 miles on them and now car is put away. They seem ok not noticing any oil coming out the back . I had a few problems with my car so did idle it a bit more before driving but again they seem fine. I get some piston slap for a few minutes when engine is cold but not blaming the rings for that.forged pistons are going to make some noise and talking really cold right before put car away for few weeks since got car done. My car is street car not track car so hope the hellfires are street friendly. As said if don't see smoke out the back like one guys nitrous lt1 build will be happy camper. They must have really set up his rings loose or something it was embarrassing for him.

My engine builder siad that a chrome moly top ring is the way to go and use what diamond sent me.

Yep, I always used plain old speed pro plasma moley. They are pretty forgiving on bore distortion but not very forgiving if the tune isnt right. Too rich will kill them just as easy as being too lean..
