Looking for 600+whp with ls1
Looking for 600+whp with ls1 Alright so I'm debating whether or not to build a ls1'ed 240sx. I currently have a boosted rsx that ran 10.8@138 with a 1.73 60 foot and want something faster. My question is would the only way to get a ls1 in the 650+whp range with boost? I'm pricing out the build and the 6500 dollar investment on a magnacharger isn't looking too attractive. I already broke the 20k mark on parts (including ls1/t56 and swap kit) and I haven't even included engine internals or heads into the pricing. Also I was looking at the "quarter mile" sticky and noticed there aren't any magnacharged cars on the list only procharged and turbo. Is there a reason for this?

Maggie's fall off up top...and all though great for street, and everyday
reliability, they aren't capable of adding power down the road like the other two
FI options (turbos being the best choice). also, they're not as efficient and won't make the hp numbers per lb of boost as a turbo or centri.

Well, it is certainly a good idea, but I dont know that you NEED them....
good luck with the build though. you'll find making power with an LSx to be pretty simple after getting that much power from a 4 cylinder for sure.

I am running a forged LS2 and with 9.5 pounds of boost it put me at 564 rwhp on Bobs mustang dyno. That should be close to 600 rwhp on a dyno jet. If I upped the boost to 12-13 pounds that would be an easy 650 rwhp. So I would Procharge it and be done. 600 rwhp and Procharged is very easy.

Yeah some people are telling me a 500 hp NA LSX is very doable and throwing nitrous at that would get me where I want (power and 1/4 mile goal wise). Reason I considered a magna is because there aren't any procharger kits for a LSX 240. The only component I could use from a "kit" would be the charger. I would have to fabricate a custom IC and piping (which is doable) except I would be paying 6000+ for just the charger and throwing everything else away.

Id say either sell the stock engine you have and buy a built shortblock from a sponsor or if you have a good engine shop then forge the stock shortblock. There are some that have survived at 600 rwhp on a stock shortblock but thats really pushing the limits IMO. Stock crank, forged rods (callies/compstar), forged pistons (diamond/mahle/wiseco), arp rod bolts, head studs, decent FI cam, and a set of 317 heads would be a good budget setup (you could go with cheaper rods and pistons). Toss is about 10-12 pounds of boost and you easily meet your goals. As for the form of FI id say Procharger if SC'ed or if your good at fabbing then make your own front or rear mount turbo kit. Either one will get you to your goals easily with room to grow.
Thanks again for the guidance and suggestions guys. I'm still trying to debate if the extra work and money is worth it. What is the max power a stock crank/stroke/bore ls1 with supporting mods(heads, cam, internals, etc) can make with a procharger?
The stock crank is good to over 800 rwhp (some have hit 1000 rwhp I believe?) and the block should be good till that range as well. With a procharger D1SC you should be able to hit 750-800+ rwhp (depending on Heads/Cam/Intake/Exhaust, rear, and tranny combo). If you want to go for quadruple digits then an F1 procharger would fit the bill.
If it's naturally aspirated, the powdered rods and cast pistons are good for 550-580hp.
Turbocharged, I've seen them hit 650-700hp, but they were on borrowed time.
Supercharged, they can live around 600-650hp.
Like I've said many times before, it's not so much about the psi you're running, but the supportive fuel and electrical mods that will allow your car to be reliable.

Are you referring to the stock bottom end? I have a good idea of what the stock block is capable of I was just asking what's the maximum power a procharger is good for. Some just said 98Z28MASS stated it's good for about 750-800. If that is so then the procharger will be a bit too much for what I am looking for.
If your setup is capable of producing more power than you are actually making that is a good thing! Say you plan on making 650 rwhp if your set up is put together to make/handle 800whp then you wont be pushing your system to the limits which is a lot easier/safer on your parts!
