Ok, I changed the cam retainer plate, stepped up to the 15w40 oil and while the front cover was off I changed the oil pick up tube o-ring "again". I was anxious to start the car and see no more oil issues. Well, I started it up, cold idle was right at 6 lbs. As it warmed up the hot idle was right at 25. Much better then the 10 lbs before... But the issue Im having now is not while driving. The oil pressure while driving is fine, my issue is when I come to a stop. The oil pressure briefly drops off to about 15 lbs. Then I glanced up and noticed that the RPMs were briefly dropping off to about 300 RPMs. That made me wonder If I ever really had an oil pressure issue. I know that the oil pressure and RPMs work hand in hand, when the motor RPMs fall off the oil pressure drops off. Now I need to find out why when I come to a stop my RPMs briefly drop off. Its a new 6 liter iron block motor, so there are more cubes. I just cleaned my IAC motor, to see if that would help. I wonder if that tiny little hole in the throttle body blade has anything to do with it. Does it need to be bigger, now that I have more cubes...

Well if your idle is down to 300 rpms, your oil pressure is going to be low. All the throttle body blades have holes in them. That is a tune issue as far as the idle goes. Get that fixed and you should be good then.

As far as the 15w40 rotella oil goes, how many miles did everyones engine have on it before they started using it? I bought some for my engine to use for the startup after the turbo addition is finally finished. Kinda worried, don't know why though. Just looking for some reassurance I guess.

A lot of sport bikers and myself have used Rotella in our bikes that rev past 11k rpm with no issues, but we change our oil every 1500 to 2000 miles.

I dont remember. Might want to see if you can catch this episode, Rolling Rock in one hand and a rib in the other causes a slight impediment.

you are right cant use it for long periods as it is none deterrgent which bikers don't want a detergent b/c of wet cluth set up. If you change oil when it starts to get dirty or for me every 1500 to 2000 when using rotella should be no sludge building and if you are worried about sludge seafoam it every couple changes.

When I first put my setup together, I ran Advanced Auto 10-40 for about a week. It was intended to just flush out the previously used motor. I had no issues. I switched to Mobil 1 0-30 and now as soon as I get up to operating temp (about 210), the turbo smokes like crazy when i come to a stop. I am going back to a heavier oil.

Your seems high for a boosted motor, I thought most guys where around 190? The highest I get is 192, fans come at at 190 and within a minute or so, I back down to 185.
I see you are in sunny south florida too...Do you know Josh in your are with a black SS turbo also?

Well, I finally got the idea to have the tune check and appearantly the idle from the previous tune was off. Everytime Id go to slow down the oil pressure was dropping off. Well, I didnt notice the rpms dropping to around 300. So, of course the oil pressure would fall. Im using Rotella now and so far so good. Thanks for all of your help guys. Man, little issues can end up turning into real headaches... CHEERS

Remember Charlie not to leave that oil in too long or it will build up sludge, just change it at you set intervals and you should be ok...

Because I had to move the radiator and go to a pusher fan setup, my car cools right down at an idle. The problem is when I have to go somewhere that requires an extended cruise of 55+ MPH. 3 speed trans + 3.73 gears equals 3K RPM. Add in the fact that the turbo is only 2 inches from the radiator and you end up with 210* op temp with 90* ambient air.

I'm not sure that I know Josh. Perhaps a little more detail. Like city, color of car, something.

Yeah Moe, got it. And just to let ya know, the Vette is still up and running. Very good track record, 100 times more wins then loses. Your the man with your tuning. Thanks for everything sir.
