Default Turbo Suggestions

I've been reading most of the threads concerning turbo's for LS-1's for the last 5 to 6 months. Well i'm about to purchase a turbo kit within the next month. Once I purchase this turbo kit, there will be no more upgrading, so I need yall's suggestions on which kit to purchase. I also checked out Turbotechnology's kits, but i'd rather hear yall's suggestions. I have a LS-6 motor(came from a 2002 Z06)with double-springs, in a 99 Camaro SS. I'm not looking to make my car a quarter mile runner. I'd like to have it for top-end enjoyment and retaining my air conditioner setup. As of right now, the car has 3.73 gear in a Moser 12-bolt, tranny built by T-56, Spec 3 Clutch. Now, if the bug bites me, i'd like to run it at the track for some fun, but that's about it. Which kit and setup would yall suggest? Thanks for the comments too!!!

Give Josh at Kentucky Turbo a call...

He has a manifold kit that retains the A/C and will make great power.... 76mm should do just fine.

I would personally stay away from the rear mounts...

Good luck

I've read some negative things about Kentucky Turbo. Not sure about them, unless someone else can give some feedback about them again.

Really I havn't heard anything negative about Kentucky performance are you sure your not mixing it up with Ohio Forced Induction which is a whole nother story. Yes you cannot go wrong with the TTI kit and their customer service. They have made a few nice changes to the log manifolds to help them flow a lot more. Good luck.

Glad you mentioned them, Ohio Forced Inductions. That's the company, not Kentucky. Sorry about the mix-up. I'm sure everyone can understand, when we're spending 6 grand, you wanna spend it with caution. I don't have a problem paying that much, as long as the system works. Thanks

aps kits are very nice but a little pricey, tti kit are good kits and reasonably priced and if you have the ls6 it means the you have slightly higher CR then ls1's so i would work on lowering it before you put the turbo on. lq9 heads will do the job for you. good luck

Just for my knowledge, aps kits are the front mounted kits and tti are rear mount, advise if that's correct. What is the "slightly higher CR"? LQ9 heads would help with the airflow, i understand that. You must excuse me, i'm one hell of a driver, but not familiar with the terminology yall use with the turbo stuff. Please advise.

The turbo technology kit is a front mount, best to hit there website and look over their kits to see if either suits your needs.

KTYP was a great sponsor, but no longer sponsors the board....hope that changes soon..eeh Josh?

superchargers, turbo's, N02 & N/A, all are mechanical devices and all mechanical devices fail one way or another, it's the nature of the beast. rear mount, under the hood and APS all have their own pros and cons. you just have to weigh what pros and cons work best for you

the lq9 heads flow a little better the the stock ls1 heads and they will lower the compression ratio. compression ratio is the room between the top of the piston and the combustion chamber. the higher the compression ratio the less room you have between the piston the the combustion chamber. for naturally aspirated engines high compression is the key to making power (and displacement and lots of other things) but for boosted application you need allot more room between the piston and the head because there will be allot more air going in then in a naturally aspirated engine. basically what you want to look for is 9.5:1 CR and lower for boosted application. but there are ways to run boost on a high compression engine, it is called meth. . you need that because some fuel starts it's combustion before the piston reaches it's full compression cycle and meth increase the octane number of the fuel that you are using witch prevents knock .

another way you can prevent knock is the shape and size of the combustion chamber

hope this helps you out . good luck

Another Vote For KYTP... Some top notch kits for the right price.... But I am biased. I could not say enough good things about Josh.
