Thumbs up Forged 347 break in

Hey guys I have a new forged 347 with diamond pistions and rings, I will be running a vortec supercharger with 10 to 15lbs of boost and my question is do I have to break the motor in with the supercharger ingaged or disingaged to get the rings to seat properly?

I think as long as you stay out of high boost you'll be okay. Be sure to run non-synthetic oil in the engine the first time around. Hopefully someone else can confirm all of that.

Just run the engine as best you can without abusing it too much (wide open throttle) and run it at a variety of different RPM's, rev it up while driving while leaving it in whatever gear you'd like and allow it to decelerate by itself as well in that same gear - that will allow the rings to seat, from what ive learend on here anyway.

do not run synthetic oil because there will not be much friction to break in the rings.

are those moly rings ? if they are i have been told that you have to do a hard break in on them.

and if the engine is not in the car yet i would put it on an engine dyno and break it in there.

I ran regular mineral oil for the first 300 miles and that was changed 3 times, alitte over kill but oil is cheap, forged moters arent. If its running pig rich like mine was dont drive it too long beforer tuning you'll wash the cylinder walls of their oil. Heat cycles are the most importrant thing, after several heat cycle's give her hell.

Break in? Make a couple half throttle passes, and then give it hell. The thing is full roller, there is no need for extended break in periods anymore.

I am sorry, but that just made me laugh like hell. The Pep Boys Performance isle is not considered a Performance Shop Break-in oil is just standard non synthetic oil. I would break in the motor with the SC disengaged.

He is actually right, obviously not Pep Boys, but Valvoline has a break in oil with added zinc, as do others.

On the last 2 cars I've just used regular oil to break in for 800 miles of heat cycles. Driving 10 hours isn't going to break in properly, you need to get the motor to full operating them then let it cool down, then again, then again, then again.
