F1A on a 347?
Well, I have been deliberating whether or not to go FI this year, and I have decided, that I would go for it....
What I am wondering is, will an F1A be too big for a 347? I would like to keep my shortblock if I could, and I have been seeing people putting them(the F1A) on their mustangs, but I have also heard about it creating a TON of heat if the boost isnt up.... say, pushing 15 pounds as opposed to pushing say 18 or 20 pounds... would I be able to run the F1A on my 347 with success if I pullied it appropriately? Would it be a fun car to drive through a 6 speed, or should I go back to Auto? I have a line on an F series blower kit, and am wondering about being able to spin it efficiently with a 347...
thanks

KP swapped his D-1SC for an F-1A back in the day with his 347. You can check it out in the above link. Bob

Is the conclusion of the F1A/347 story
It works just fine on a 347, considering they were designed around a 4.6 mod motor a 347 is 'big.'
I have found they like to be ran at a certain RPM range, after a certain point they get pretty hot pretty fast, but I was also getting limited on pipe (3") and intercooler (4" core ebay) size so with a nice A2W I dont thik that would have been an issue. Its a good upgrade from a D1SC, the mid range punch is outstanding and on an auto car that doesnt drop a lot of RPM between the shifts it works very well.
If 'fun' to you is low ETs and dragstrip performance than an auto is the way to go, if high dyno numbers and highway racing is your idea of fun than stick with the 6 speed.

thanks for the links...
I have been looking forward to a set-up like this, and have long thought that the 347 was under apreciated. I have a forged 347 with callies rods, and diamond pistons, but it was built as an NA/Nitrous motor. But it was built with the goods, fully studded, and I feel that it would be a very capable foundation with a set of 72cc heads, and a blower cam. And as far as the "fun", intentions vary, but it is a primarily street driven vehicle and weekend track rat.

with all that being said
what would be the funner, faster avenue... I have a built 6 speed currently, but I never claimed to be the fastest gear banger out there, and I have been courting the idea of an automatic, such as a TH400, 350 or 210.... Given the mixed duties of the car, and my fondness of street and fast drag racing... What tranny would you go with?

I have a D1-SC and a six speed. And I'm having fun with the challenge of ME trying to get more out of my car. If it ever turns into a drag only car, or I start beaking stuff, it may get an auto. But for now? I'm no Ronnie Sox either, but it sure is fun!

Somewhere down the road, I am tempted to have a 347 with an F1A and pushing respectable boost...but there are other priorities first unfortunately.

I haven't seen this problem. We have a local guy with an '04 GTO running an F-1A on his stock bottom end with an oversize blower pulley to keep boost down. He has no problems with it.
This CTS-V sees a lot of road miles and no problem with it's F-1A getting hot.

This C5 Corvette runs great on a roadcourse with an F-1C. It sees more wide open throttle time in one day than a lot of cars do in a lifetime.

overdrive
The 210 is an overdrive Tranny, and a bit lighter than the 4l80 E.. I am going to stick with that series of autos just wondering how well they perform racing in other avenues.
I love fast times at the track, but I have to admit I love racing on the street (pretty big scene in Little Rock)... Kinda needing a tranny that will perform in both worlds..
