Default Trans selection for turbo.

Hello people, I had a question about which transmission to use for a turbo build. My car is currently an auto, but I had a question about a turbo automatic. Which is better for a street driven car. The plan for the build is a 9xxhp car, with an EFI sbc. Which would you guys recommend for a car that will see a healthy amount of cruising miles and a decent amount of racing as well. I certainly plan to drive my car like I hate it, so to speak. Which would be the better selection, T56 or Auto(Th-400)?

Thank you

Turbos like automatics better than manuals. If those are your choices, I would choose the TH400.

I'd definitely do a powerglide.

For a strip only car, the powerglide without a doubt. Since he did say that this is for a street car, I am going to suggest a built 4L80E.

To do it over again, I would've went with a th400 too. Cheap to build, easy to swap, and lighter than a 4l80. But then again, I drive mine maybe once a week.

T56 = $$$$$
4L80 = $$$$
Th400 = $$$
PG = $$$

You could join me at the asylum and run a th400 like a power glide at the track and still have 3rd gear as over drive for highway use. Works great and my Mommy says I'm special.

th400 is my personal choice. Thats what i am running with 355's and i could run down the interstate 75mph at maybe 2800. I drove mine everyday it isnt raining and does fine city driving as well and best pass for the car so far has been 9.7 @ 142.

4l80 for ultimate streetability and great strength... Th400/Glide for decent streetability, great strength and racing...

Ohh yeah. Th210 if you plan to beat the **** out of your car and want a tranny you'd never have to worry about breaking...

i have 2.75 gears in my car with the t400. I have a slightly better launch ratio than a typical power glide with 4.11 rear gears.
