I have a rearmount GrandamGT. I used about 70 ft of header wrap, 4 bottles of VHT header paint and a large roll of aluminized tape. I would hold down one end of the pipe and clamp the wrap on it with metal zip ties. Wrap them as tight as possible. When you get to a 45 or 90 degree turn, make a centimeter cut in the wrap so that it can overlap easily instead of bulging up.

Don't forget to get a turbo blanket also! Big difference in spool time!

x2...except I went from front to back. Also coated with silver header wrap paint (by DEI) afterwards. Worked great. Was a total PITA to remove when I took the turbo off......

Back to front is best because you hide the leading edge of the wrap from the wind. It will help your wrap stay tight and not fray for much longer.

My first build with dual exhaust I did one front to back and the other rear to front. The one I did front to rear needed re-doing after 2 years while the other was nice and tight.

Latest duals with a layer of ceramic batting under the wrap:

Good info. I kept hitting the Y-pipe on speedbumps and had to redo that section of wrap every month. Made it easier to replace (for me) going front to back......

Just my $0.02 The wind thing is a valid point

Makes it easier to wrap....and helps the wrap hug the pipe tightly when it dries. Shrinkage I guess.......

I've been under the impression that stock manifolds can get more power over headers...

The topic of wrap is referring to insulation of the Y-pipe and I-pipe for heat retention and better turbo spool.

You are correct about the stock manifold vs headers.

typically, on rear mount turbos, what kind of difference to you choose in A/R ratio's? If you dont heat wrap the pipes, how big of a difference is it? Thanks guys.

the bigger the ratio, IE 1.05 - the laggier the turbo will be (but ull see more power). Heat wrapping vs non - i have not really seen any solid evidence but its just going by how turbos work.. heat = good. spend the extra cash for a couple rolls of heat wrap and ur good.

Your solid evidence should be all the posts saying "I just wrapped my exhaust and I can't believe how much faster it spools".

irun4cops,
the a/r you decide on has many factors. With a rear mount one of the biggest factors i've seen is in the transmission type. Stick shifts tend to make less usable power on the larger turbos with rear mounts so i'd personally stick with the smaller a/r like .81 for the 600 rwhp range.

You DEFINATELY want to wrap or coat the exhaust, it makes a VERY big difference in how the car drives.

I personally just upgraded my 1.00 a/r 83mm turbine 80mm compressor wheel to a 1.25 a/r 87mm turbine with the same 80mm and the higher flowing race cover. I'll be doing a write up on my findings in a few weeks after I get it installed next week. My current setup works very good and has just enough lag to get traction on the street.

Adding rods and pistons to a 6.0L will make it "fully forged". The stock crank has been proven to 2000 HP.

Zombie, are you expecting more lage with the larger turbine wheel/Race cover?

also is a larger turbine better? im guessing it would be...

Cheers

Chris.

I'm expecting more lag, have to wait until next week to see if I notice it. One of the nice things about stalled autos is they mask lag. When I went from a .81 a/r on my t76 to a .96 a/r I never noticed the lag difference, just extra top end power.

i was referring to actual RPM #s (sounded like thats what he was looking to see). I am sure it would vary based on location, elevation, temp, all that good stuff is all i meant lol
