Default What is the biggest FMIC that will fit 98 f body?

I am thinking of doing twin 62mm on a 408ci. What is the biggest FMIC you can fit on a 98 camaro and where to get one.

Are you looking for A2A or A2W? We have set up both in our bumper support.

If its Custom, you can make it what ever size you want! I ran a 31X12X4" import for a while. Now I have a big custom intercooler that TTi made for me.

There is enough room to build an A/A core to support a rated 1800hp.

It can be done, but at that HP level you are far better off with A2W. The A2A will have a hard time keeping IATs down. The core size at 1800 HP would be huge.

I'd like to see a picture of that if you have any by chance.

Not saying it wouldn't be a bitch to do and weigh a ton, but in theory it can be done. In reality it is not practical. Again, at 1800 HP A2W is the way to go.

Making the blanket statement that a2w is far better at those power levels is just wrong. If the vehicle were purely a drag car I wouldn't even contest your statement. For a street car a properly sized a2a core is more than capable of doing the job just fine. On the flip side I haven't seen an adequate a2a I/C on this board since I joined. The a2a core I was referring to also comes in at just over 40lbs, about the same weight as the water and water reservoir in a typical a2w set-up.

I'll try to get pics tomorrow.

The supra guys have been running crazy fast with the Precision 051-1228 A2A cores. I have one on my Z28 and one going on the supra. Best/biggest A2A core on the market AFAIK.

I made this myself using a Precision core. It supports 1700hp.

You really need to know how much pressure drop a core will have at the rated flow to REALLY know how much HP it will support efficiently. Plus the thermal efficiency.

You could take a 12 x 12 x 3 inch core and say it supports 1700 hp....and it will...with a pressure drop north of 6psi and an outlet temp north of 200F. These IC companies need to provide more info....IC's are like Fuel pumps...you need to know the flow curve to really know what you have.

turbo'd stang,
Is that the 24x12x4.5 core? If it is and you are making that kind of power I'd suggest getting a bigger core.

Onfire mentioned some key points to having a sufficient intercooler. There is no definitive answer to an acceptable pressure drop across the core but if you are seeing more than 5psi difference your core is too small. Also if intake temps are sky rocketing(more that 15-20 degrees in a 1/4 mile pass) you core is either of poor quality or it's too small and you need something bigger.

It's a 27.5x12.75x5. It's getting a large frame 88.

That core is maxed out at 14-1500hp, and that's being somewhat generous.

You have to remember the constrants of the small size behind the bumper cover. Yes, there are a/a intercoolers that can suppport such power, but not fit behind a camaro front nose clip!
