Default Single or Twin?

Hey all, just a quick question for a semi-n00b...

What's the major difference between a TT setup and a single T setup? I've heard of both on different and same cars...the Supra namely.

I know you would have lower boost presure for each turbo in a TT setup, and possibly faster spool time depending on the size...

What are the advantages of both?

Cheers,

I say get a single turbo kit-plenty of power with a single turbo and a few minor upgrades.

most TT set-up's will have one smaller turbo and one slighty larger turbo. this way, the smaller spools up quick then when the large one is ready it kicks in, this way you have boost all the time instead of waitin on the one large to spool up

TT is faster to spool, but less efficient. There are two TT designs - in parallel and in consequance. That is , either you have one turbo feeding of and working with the "left" side of the motor and one for the "right" side. Turbos are obviously identical.
Or, you can have air going through one turbo and then through another turbo.
I don't think it makes a lot of sense to run either TT setup on LS1, 'cause you already have 5.7l of displacement and 400+/-50hp N/A, so you don't need to worry about lack of power when turbos are not spooled. Also LS1 block won't stand the high-pressure boost which dedicated FI platforms may use. So, unless it's some kind of a monster engine, I'd go with an efficient single turbo setup, though a lot of people may disagree and they would have some valid points.

spool time is not traced to wether it is a single or twin turbo (not talking about sequentail)
spool time has to do with the size of turbo and header & exhaust efficaincy.
and also intercooler effciancy.

since a twin has better header design (usaully) it will spool faster, baised on that, unless the exhaust & intercooler is poor) or turbos are big

you still get lag, due to lack of exhaust gasses flowing, nothing you can do about that, other than sizing the exhaust housing smaller, which then effects top end horsepower possibilities.

the incon twins, were a good match, and im willing to bet, that if the company did not go belly up, there would be more TT cars around.

also, in a twin setup, both turbos make X amount of boost, and X is what the manifold sees. There is 1/2 the volume, but same boost level. Not with each turbo making 1/2 the boost psi.

I personally like TT's for a driver car. Fast repsonce time, and lots of midrange power. (more usable than a super large turbo that does not spool until 3500-4000 rpm's, ect)

If its a race car, go a large turbo, or 2 large twins (like harlans setup)

I think either way you cant loose!
Personal prefrance and avalibility is the main thing IMOp
Take a look at the boosted list.
in the top 10,their are more twin then single. And When Harlen gets his up and running, I can almost garrenty (Dont let me down Matt!) That his car WILL be faster then the single.
This said a few above statments are not true. TT is Definetly doing somthing right.
Again, I feel it is mostly personal prefrance!

Twins also have a smoother power curve and more predictable/less peaky throttle response.

Hey guys, im a n00b so forgive me if this sounds crazy, but i have actually heard people spraying until their turbo's kick in. Has anyone done or heard of this before? Is it a safe pratice or is it just a bunch o' crap?

safe, can't say that.

But it is common, especially with the T70+ single turbo supra guys.
