Default Considering forced induction

I've been THINKING about doing some sort of forced induction setup on my 99ss, planning for the future...how efficient are the rear mount turbo set-ups? supercharged, procharged, turbocharged? whats my cheapest route? im looking to do a small amount of forced induction, virtually a stock engine, all internals stock anyways, LT's, ORY, 3.73 gears, and a 3400 vig. stall. i was thinking a turbo would be good with my stall, im not really looking to spend that much i want to try to piece something together just looking for someone who has went forced induction without buying a 4k plus kit...i like the idea of the truck manifold turbo setup, but that gets expensive too. lol any input and ideas would be appreciated. thanks

Don't really have any advice on how to do it on the cheap, I'm in about 15,000 but check this thread out. https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...induction.html

thanks, im basically wondering if it would be cheaper for me to try and piece together parts here and there, or save up and buy a complete kit...and im sure if i piece it together ill run into fitment issues of some sort(just my luck lol)...im fimilair with turbos, i made a home-ade turbo kit for my v6 camaro back in the day when i was bored, it ran at about 12 psi and worked well lol, suprised me for the way i rigged it up but it beat a dumdumdumdumdum without a problem...so im leaning more towards turbo, because we all know once you go turbo you never go back!

Your cheapest route would be to get a used STS setup or used Procharger setup. Despite wanting to remain within your planned budget, for $300 I would get this kit http://www.byunspeed.com/product_inf...e4b03b424fa236 . You could probably sell your LTs & ORY to offset the cost of a tubular K-Member. Also checkout Firehawk123 (I think), he had this kit on his car when it first came out a few years ago.

I am in the same boat as you. Looking for the best bang for the buck. You will be doing alot of searching and alot of guys on here from what i have gathered are against the sts kit. I for one am not from what i have seen so far and who i have talked too. Like one of the guys said above finding a used system(sts, procharger) is your best bet. Good luck

thanks for the replies, i should have my loan paid off within the year so i'll just turn around and get another loan and keep it a stock appearing car with a quiet turbo setup and shoot for low 11s/high 10s is this possible on a stock motor with sts?

I would look for a good deal on a used procharger going to be easier and cheaper in the long run

I am only like 1500-2000 in on my build. ( i sold 1000 worth of N/A stuff i swapped..injectors/exhaust/cam)
My motor was already built but here is a quick rundown.

Garrett 74mm T6 flanged turbo (brand new rebuild) 330US
31x12x3 intercooler 100us
wastegate 150us
2 DSM bovs---Free
Hot/cold piping---250us
Couplers/clamps---60us
60# injectors---300us
Custom comp cam---350us
Braided lines etc---free
Header kit---130us
Pusher Fans---50us
V-bands 3-2.5s 1-3.5---100us
Header Wrap and Por20 paint---100us
meth kit (snow performance MAF)----180ish US
Mallory 685---170us

Fuel system
2 walbros-200us
Fittings-20us or so
all the line was from work (-8 braided feed)
3/8 hardline return - 30us

I am sure I am missing a few things but it can be done cheap IF you wait on deals. I have been buying stuff since September last year, I am gonna be firing the car up in a week or so.

I have a build on cz28 and turboforums.
