Looks like you will have to wrap the driver side header so it doesn't melt the wiring harness. And why does the passenger side header angle toward the center of the car? I had a set of stainless works long tube headers and off road y pipe on my 99 magnacharged Z28 and the fitment sucked! Nothing like beating your $1200 set of headers and y pipe to death with a hammer to make them clear the body of the car that they were designed for

what should have been stated before, If you want it done right... do it yourself. I will be teaching myself how to weld here shortly and I'll build my own

yep, just like that. you'd be surprised what perseverance and a "can do" attitude can accomplish. mild steel is cheap and easy to work with. if he is willing to stick with it until he gets it right, he can do it. he'd better not get discouraged easily though or he will fail.

I built my on kit on the vette because I couldn't afford to buy one. it worked well and put down more power than most of the prefabbed kits at the same boost level. was it pretty?, no. but it made serious power.

the man who says it can't be done shouldn't interrupt the man actually doing it.

I didn't say it couldn't be done. But he is talking about learning how to weld and making his own headers. He better wake up if he thinks he's going to learn how to do that anytime in the near future. That **** takes tons of practice and tons of time.

I worked Directly with Stainless Works on the LS1 Turbo headers. The pics are no the greatest. The clearance to the wiring harness is not as bad as it looks. The passnger side header swings toward the center of the car to aid in making the crossover pipe easier.

As far as building your own headers. I say buy all means, go for it. There is nothing wrong with teaching yourself something useful.

I learned how to weld while tubbing and back halfing my high school car. if you have a decent welder, mig welding mild steel is VERY easy. the welds got better as I went to the back of the car.

with those headers how would you do the crossover? They seem like they come off the motor higher than truck mani's. would you do a short crossover pointing down? But then what about oil drainage.

I guess with those maybe you just do twin 67's.

Just cause the flage is facing down doesnt mean that you cant have a gravity feed. Just a short crossover with the flange facing down, keeps everything in stock location but I think you have to delete your ABS which is fine with me. But you can keep factory k-frame, a/c and alternator stock. Only thing you have to do is stand up your radiator. Awesome setup as Josh will be doing my kit after the first of the year!

If you'd rather buy a kit and call it quits or actually build something that only YOU did, I think it's worth the effort. Before my motor swap, it took me 9 hours to swap intakes, after digging into the motor, the intake took 20 minutes. It just takes a little bit of effort, what could go wrong if you do it carefully? trial and error my friend, how do you think Josh and all of the other turbo guru's did it?

I'm not expecting to build 1 set and hope for 2k horse out of them lol, nor did I say that I would have them built in 1 week

Of course it will take time, but imagine how much money you could save if you learned to do it yourself? imagine the possibilities of doing all of your own fab work? your own roll cage, the door opens up when you get good at welding.

I will weld daily until I learn my own tricks and build my own manifolds

Besides, I'm 24... I have my whole life a head of me... I want to learn all of the hard things while I'm young instead of trying to figure this **** out when I'm 40 lol

that's it. if I had to pay shops to do my work, I would have a stock car because I couldn't afford to mod it. then I would sell it because stock sucks ***.

I'm not downing good shops at all. I wish I could afford to have someone do the work for me.

I feel the same way. There are many great shops out there that build amazing kits and cars with these fbodies and vettes but the satisfaction of building your own kit is a driving force for many alone, not to mention, the amount of money saved in the end. It could even turn into a profitable thing if you end up finding a strong passion or have a knack for the job. Some people are just good at body work, others are good at welding, etc, some take years of pratice, others can have it down in months or days. It really comes down to the individual.
