+1

eBay t-bolt clamps work fine as well

On a dragstrip I wouldnt spend any extra money on a high dollar core, A2A intercoolers are nothing but a big heat sink on a drag car. I did pick up quite a bit switching from the 3" to a 4" ebay intercooler though, less IAT rise and less pressure drop was good for a solid .2 and 4mph in the 1/4 mile with no other changes. Thats on a blower car with fixed output, a big turbo should be able to jam more through the smaller IC but the larger one wont heat up as quick.

FWIW I tried a big vertical flow spearco cored intercooler and it didnt make one bit of difference on my car. I was lucky enough to be able to try it before I bought it and I ended up sending it back.

Over 1000 flywheel hp I would be looking at something else for sure..

Thanks for posting your experience KP. I'm very happy to see that there is a decent performance gain by going to the 4" core. .2 and 4mph are huge gains on 9 sec cars. If I gained that much myself i'd be in the 9.9 140mph range which is my goal.

Its a little different with a larger turbo so I wouldnt expect the same gain, I am locked to whatever the compressor can put out with a belt. If you have a big enough turbo you can make up for the lack of flow somewhat, just makes more heat doing it and efficiency takes a dive.

The 4" definitely was better in the IAT department, if I remember it would pick up around 20* less on a 1/4 mile pass. I posted some IAT and psi data years ago when I swapped between the 3 and 4 inch, posts should still be here somewhere.

Since its pretty much a direct bolt on between a 3" and 4" its a no brainer to swap them over for the 150.00 it cost.

Another eBay item that works good are the Vband flanges from OBX on eBay. They are some quality pieces and at 30 dollars thats alot better than 80 from burns and 40-50 from summitt. Some are crappy though, make sure it is an OBX one.

My car is still getting bugs worked out but I still have a little info for the 4" ebay intercooler. I chopped the 3" ends and upped my pipe to all 3.5" Other than that, just how it came. At 26psi the iat was a little over 100. At one point it was up to 170 so it sounds like it got a little heat soaked. I take that as it's good for a pass or two but no hot lapping and best to let it cool down a bit between passes. To be honest, I'm just glad the welds are good enough to hold that much boost. I never heard of someone putting that much boost through one.

Pretty much slowing down after a 1/4 mile pass and driving down the return road cools it off, hot lapping isnt an issue, you pick up more heat doing a huge burnout than anything. I could easily hot lap my car, and have. Cooling the blower itself off is what takes a little time.

So if I mention the years....not one smart-***. 😎

But.....by saying...."Back from the dead".......means you know its very old, so they won't ask "do you know this thread is old".

People are dumb, trust me they still do.
