Default Twin turbo ls1 T04B project started, total cost under $2000, missing anything?

Ok, we all sketched out everything needed and exactly how to build a twin turbo setup that will support 900 horsepower for as cheap as possible.

Heres all the parts we got and what they cost, we should be able to do the entire setup for under $2k bucks!

For building the headers off the heads we are going to build a log style manifold on each side heading forward. So two straight pieces of 2-1/2 pipe with 1-3/4 pipes welded straight from header flange. No custom header pieces....

1) Two T04B Turbos NEW - Ebay (theres a couple companies selling them, so this is normal price) $375 each, $750 total
2) Two 35MM Tial Wastegates $350. $1100 total
3) Two DSM Crush Blowoff Valves $100 $1200
4) Two LS1 Header Flanges $25 (GM) $1225
5) Random flanges for everything $100 $1325
6) Custom made Spearco Intercooler Core to support 900hp $400 $1725
7) Sheetmetal for tig welding up end tanks for intercooler $40 $1765
8) 2-20ft sticks of piping 2-1/2" and other 3" for downpipe $60 $1825
9) Local Exhaust shop, several mandrel bends for bends $50 $1875

Other thing I need is 42 lb injectors, but selling my 30's will pay for most so itll be another $100

So total ive got 1975 for the whole setup or so......anyone think i missed anything.

$400 intercooler, where?

turbo support? pipe is not enough

$50 mandrel bends, where?

and where are you going to put the turbos?

Good luck but if this is in a ls1 f-body, i don't see room for TT's up front. (with ac, ps, ect..)

Local exhaust shop, you bring them a piece of pipe and they put several random mandrel bends in it and you just cut it up and use different angles from it.

Im a direct dealer with turbonetics/spearco and i get a nice core for $400. I build the end tanks and fab the inlets myself in a couple hours of work.

actually this is a ls1 swap in a older vehicle that i did last year....it has a ton of room up front for what im going.

You might end up using a few V band clamps, stainless band clamps. You'll also need oil feed lines and drain lines for the turbo and the associated AN fittings.

Fuel pump big enough?

rubber hoses to connect stuff,
air filter,
oil pump if the turbo's aren't high enough,
something to log data with, and.......

tunning,tunning and more tunning.

that's what i could think of right now, but keep in mind the nickle and dime stuff adds up pretty quick.

i have a set of 43lbs/hr injectors for sale if you still need them.

Other than missing quite a few components (AN fittings, oil hoses, bolts, nuts, brackets, silicon couplers, injectors, tuning, Fuel components (fuel pump, fuel regulator, possibly fuel rails, etc), clamps, etc, etc. I would guess thats at least $1.5k - $2k more, just based on having done a lot of it myself.

Not to knock you at least you are working on it, you are just missing some of the big ticket items still, tuning and fuel being the major items.

He could do the tuning himself. Best of luck on the project. Don't see many DIY LS1 turbos. The little stuff will add up too.

i estimiate your finsihed cost will end up over 4 grand
it aint cheap, then figure another few grand when the engine goes, or you want to upgrade it casue it cant support the power.

Keep us posted, always interested to see projects like this come out.

If you are an accomplished welder and fabricator that's great you can save a lot of money that way.

I think you will spend another at least one stuff but again let us know.

Having alot of room in the Engine compartment will help with costs and the plumbing...but hell, you sound energitic. At at 3.5 k final (my guess) you could ..well...build it for the same as some manufactuers have...keep it goin, but some of the little stuff bites hard if your not ready for it.

Fuel system, how about the motor? there is no way a stock motor will hold 900 hp, im sure the TT setup will be capable though and the 42s won't go that far either.

hmm, other than that i think you are there.

all in all just to build the turbo setup and nothing more you are right there I think, now in order for it work on a car and not blow up that will take a lot more money. also mandrel bends no exhaust shop local to me can do a mandrel bent 3 inch pipe, even when they do a 2.5 inch peice it looks like crap and necks down a little, I would go with some mandrel bent peices from an exhaust company, I get all mine from magnaflow.

Don't forget fuel system (Pumps, filters, boost ref press reg, rails, 75lb/hr injectors, low imp converter box)

Tuning, will the stock maf work with your setup? Do you have tuning software? O2 sensors?

Have you considered the cost for intercooler piping, exhaust piping (vband flanges and clamps), relocation of things in the engine bay, do you have your own welder and other accessories that will be required to fabricate your own stuff?

There is a lot to consider, I am doinga Twin T70 on my SS right now and if you really thing that you can do a complete twin turbo setup for $2000, your need to do some more homework.

Damn...where do you get 30/hr rates? Most shops around here go for 65-70/hr.
