Default Anyone tack welding reluctor wheels????

Is it good insurance to tack the wheel to the crank flange on a boosted motor? How large/many tacks are used? How much heat needed on welder (TIG)?

Good question, I did it soo long ago I really don't recall. I'd have to say 80-125 with a pedal not maxed out.

Yep, 2 beads, about an inch long. Make sure you check the run out afterwards.

Heat is 125, I use .035 stainless rod.

Anyone got a picture of the welds?
What's the reason for welding?
What could go wrong without it?

The reluctor has the potential to spin on the crank. Ask PSJ how his reluctor was on his ARE 422

make sure you get you rotating asy balanced first-sometimes you have to add a slug of mallory on the rear counterweight and have to take off the reluctor wheel in order to do that

You are taking the weight of the reluctor into account of the rotating assembly aren't you?

If you have your rotating assembly balanced first and then you tach weld the reluctor ring would you have to re-balance the assembly?

^ I understand. You wouldn't want to weld the reluctor and have to add metal that would require the reluctor wheel to be removed.
