Default IC pipes!!

ok on my last build i used steel all the way from the turbo to the engine. i used it becuase it was cheap and i could weld it with my welder myself. now on my new kit i'm at a cross road right now. i havnt ordered the pipes for the charge pipes yet and was wondering this, should i use stainless steel or go alum this time. i want to go alum for the fact it's super light weight, but my problem is i cant weld it as i dont have a tig welder for that, i dont weld enough to make it worth buying a tig welder for this one job. then you have the stainless, i can weld that but was wondering how much heavier it is compaired to the alum. i know it wont be as heavy as my steel version but i want to be able to save some weight if i can.

what are yall doing?

you could always get a spool gun to weld alum with your MIG.... much cheaper than buying a TIG setup.

or do the common sense thing, and just use stainless.

Taking a good dump would save as much weight unless your pipes re huge.

or use tape to hold the aluminum and mark it for alignment and take it to get welded

it depends on what you have for a welder but for example i have a Miller 180, so i go on the site and look up accesories and search for a spool gun that works with my welder.
for my 180 a spool gun setup is like $200 or so, totally worth it compared to getting a new TIG machine just to do alittle bit of AL. now i plan on getting a diversion 165 for my home shop so i cant say how well the spool gun setup works but i know a few pro's that have told me its worth the cash when you just have a little bit to do like you would.
if it was me, id probably just do it in SS since i have all the stuff to do it but for some every little ounce makes a difference so i can see why you would want to do AL. not a bad thing to be able to know how to weld AL, it comes in handy quite a bit

i couldnt agree more brother. im living proof of what a guy can do with a little bit of knowledge (usually a scary thing in my case ) and a decent tool / equipment selection.
if the spool gun setup is no existant or super expensive, id take a look at some of the newer hobbyist TIG setups that have come out. the used stuff is alot more affordable than one might think.
