5.3 setup?
I got a block super cheap from work it needs some work. it came out of a 2004 suburban that didnt' change the oil on for 11,000 miles no ticking no knocking just ALOT ALOT of sludge. My question is what is an ideal setup for this motor with boost? should i keep the stock internals and clean then up? I don't really know alot about boosting these things. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all

don't mean to hijack here....I had the same idea and people said stay with the ls1 if I had a choice since the piston and rods were made out of the same material(weakest link).

I dont really know whats stronger, but my stock 5.3L bottom end from a junk yard has been holding up for 3 years putting 640hp to the wheels through a really loose converter. And im not easy on it.

I have 317s on mine, they work fine. The valves are in the same position, same spot as the 5.3 heads. The combustion chamber is bigger, it overlaps the cylinder slightly. But larger combustion chamber = less valve shrouding = better flow. The 317s also have better exhaust ports.

I would run a little larger turbo unless you already have that one. Also stick at least a ls6 cam in there the 5.3 cam in anemic. We did a s10 with a turbo 5.3, t6 76mm and it brings the turbo on quick. Its a completly stock 5.3 longblock with a ls1 intake. We will either be installing a ls6 cam or a forged motor depending on budget.
