Default will it hold

Ok so i just completed the header and true duals install on my buddies vortech charged 99 firehawk. Now he wants to do heads, blower cam, intake and maybe a new pulley on the supercharger. will the bottom end hold together? He wants to see if we can get this thing close to the 9's if not in the 9's.

How much boost? If he wants to run 9's (quarter mile time).....that really depends on his suspension setup, transmission, driveline, tire, etc.

I think 9 PSI is the limit on the stock bottom end, but it really depends on the tune.

Yes, it should stay together. With heads, cam, intake, & duals, you'll most likely max out the blower before the bottom end gives up. All assuming the tune is good of course. Should see right around 7-8psi depending on how big of a cam is in it.

it has a built trans,2400 stall and a Currie 9in rear end with 3.73's. the supercharger is a vortech v-9. im not to sure what kind of boost he's running now. it runs 11.80's now on drag radials

Its not a matter of how much boost. Stock shortblock can safely take 500rwhp with a good tune. Anything after that, you are pushing it.

His best bet would be to sell his shortblock while its still in running order and use the money from that to help buy a forged shortblock from a sponsor. You can get really good deals on assembled shortblocks built for boost. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would have gone that route rather than grenading my stock shortblock and trying to sell the pieces that were left over that were still in good condition.

I don't know how much stronger the LS6 block are but there are a hand full of people on the corvette forum who are pushing the stock short block over 700rwh. I know one claims he has been doing it for over 2 years. This also takes a tuner that know what is going on. From my experience there are very few of them. I am still looking lol.

Dont mean to hijack but I always thought superchargers needed a smaller stall like not bigger...I happen to have a circle D 5c which is a 4400 stall and thought I would need to restall it to a 3600 if I wanted to boost it...

Can someone explain?

I was under the same impression. This is Marvin from Pontiac magazines old car, him and a guy named Brian set it up. I guess they started with a 4000 stall and worked it down to a 2400 because it kept blowing the tires off out of the hole.

lol you mean suspenSion? jk. im going to have him let me do a little to the suspension. but its a street car and he wants to keep it that way. he loves the way it feels to much to let me set it up for the track. however, he hardly drives it, maybe i can talk him into it. on the other hand he loves the whole sleeper appeal the car has. he just needs to make up his f*@$ing mind. or maybe ill just lay down the law and tell him what we're going to do to it
