Default Turbos and AC (YES I SEARCHED)

Now, ever since I've heard about setting up a front mount turbo for the F-Body, people have said that you have to remove the AC. Why is that? Specifically, which part of the AC system has to be removed for everything to fit?

You can do whatever you want if you make the kit yourself....

Well, I'd like to know what problems other people have faced before I just jump into it and screw myself over.

When facing manifolds forward the pass manifold dumps where the compressor is. Therefor having to remove ac.

Exactly. The kits that I have seen that keep the A/C usually use a passenger side manifold on the passenger side and then use a custom pass-thru log type on the driver's side. Exhaust is routed from passenger side manifold, under the torque converter and back into the back of the driver's side log then out the front of the log to the turbo.

Or you could do a truck manifold on the driver side and a C6 manifold on the passenger side and loop under the manifold and condenser and meet the truck manifold in the middle in front of the balancer

Both very good ideas. There are many options to keep A/C. I am using the Ebay kit to keep mine even though i am not going to have it on the car but the ho parts were cheap.

You need to ditch the AC because AC is for pussies......and pussies need not apply for a turbo ls1 powered car

All kidding aside, previous posts are correct. Most simple turbo kits use truck manifolds pointing forward and the AC unit is in the way. Keeping the AC requires some crafty fabricating.

Not that exact one but similar. Just search ebay turbo builds here, there are several.

I saw some pics of this and it has picqued my interest.

Let me get this straight, you use the truck passenger mani on the driver side just like normal. Then you use the C6 passenger mani on the passenger side with a small u-bend to bring it forward.

Is this done with the stock K-member or do you need a tubular K? In other words, will simply notching the stock K-member yield sufficient room?

I think you use a driver's side C6 mani on the passenger's side. I want ot look into this too.
