So is it safe to say that the backfiring was caused by the bad IAC sensor, and the BS3 not being able to power up/communicate with the laptop was caused by the secondary chip being fried?
My BS3 car had a bunch of backfiring issues last year that we couldn't figure out, until we took it apart to change a few things around and found the IAC sensor was bad..

maybe...maybe not...there was also a huge variance in the injectors causing some cylinders to run very rich.

son of a....

measured coil resistance in the IAC. I found some info on LTI IACs, but I think the coil info is still relevant. Essentially, coils should be between 40 and 80 ohms and no continutity between coils.

what mine measured at the BS3 harness:

Coil A (A-high to A-low): 48 ohms (in spec)
Coil B (B-high to B-low): 4.8 ohms (out of spec)

A-high to B-low: 5.1 (should be infinite)
B-high to A-low : 51 ohm (should be infinite)
A-high to B-high: 52.2 (should be infinite)
A-low to B-low: 4.1 (should be infinite)

Shawn is a certifiable perfectionist...

When he got my injectors...they were 12% variance from low to high. After his magic touch...he got them within 2%...but that wasn't good enough for him

he gave them to a specialist he knows to try to get them down to 1%

Got my BS3 back yesterday...they were even nice enough to tape the blown chips to the box haha

It's not the size of the chip, but the magic in it!
