Lots of guys run them on here. Most seem to really like them. And many are going very fast with them.I have mine on order should be in the car within a few weeks.
I decided not to get a transbrake for now as my car is street car and only going to run a few times at track then retire from tracking it.

I wanted overdrive or would have just got a turbo 400.

Lots of boosted trucks are running 4L80s and they all seem to love them. I've actually have 4 4L80-Es. I have yet to run one boosted. I've got one sitting next to a turbo LQ4 that's getting ready to go in my 02 Silverado.

Just run a high gear and go th400. If you want, come over and you can go for a ride in zombiess car.....it runs 10.0's here in vegas, with a 2.75 gear. With a 28 inch tall tire, and the 2.75's who needs over drive? It still pulls 180 on hiway.

Ive got a 4l80e in the turbo van, but it needs it. Its 1000+ to change gears, since its awd, and it runs a 29 inch tire, with the oem 3.73's. Besides it ll cruise to other states with 6 people and baggage. It runs high 12's low 13's at 6600 lbs.

In both examples above they basically only use 1st and 2 nd for a pass at the track. I just started short shifting the van, but it barely gets to third. The ets are actually the same wether I hold out second till the line or shift to third. Zombie goes through in second at 136 mph.....with the th400.

Both trans are rosslers BTW.
The 4l80e is a buetiful thing, but way way way more $$$. Going th400 in the van wasnt really an option otherwise I would have.

I have two other turbo camaros, th400 cars, with 3.00 gears and the other with 3.25 gears, with 30 inch tires.

Cablebandit does fine with his 4l80.
Lower gears like 3.0 might be an option to some but personally hate them off boost.
I like my 3.54 off boost and still have 200mph top end potential with 4l80

I like the 4l80 cause you can get the rossler tbrake and still have fully electronic shifts for every day driving. We went on a mountain cruise yesterday and had I not had the ability to lockup the converter, I would have been in trouble in the mountains.....been there done that. I personally did not want to have to manually shift the car all the time but some folks like that....we are all different

Spoolin here is my info that you asked for
408
s488 turbo
4l80e with yank converter
rossler tbrake
3960# raceweight
3.08 gears
9.39 @ 145 on hoosier drag radials 275/60/15 at 14.5 psi of boost. As far as HP.....whatever it takes to make 3960# go 145mph

4l80e will fit with allot of modifications. the 4l60e is not the greatest automatic, but my stock one seems to be holding up too all the 12 sec passes at the track at 10 psi.

You need a really good trans cooler to expect a non-lockup converter with that high a rear-end gear to last long term. It is doable, but don't expect OEM style service life.

Have had good luck with mine so far. 8000 miles on the tranny, 70+ 10 sec passes, 3900lb race weight. I've changed the fluid twice when it got cooked from sitting on the trans brake when I had issues spooling in the past, trans has been great, no issues. I have a big trans cooler though as you mentioned. In normal driving I never go over 2500 rpms, converter is really tight around town.
