Default 93+Methanol - Race Gas?

Would you guys consider 93+Methanol (at the cylinder) race gas? I assume 101+meth would be considered so, but what do you guys think about 93+meth?

hey man hows things?
93 comes from the pump here, so 93 and meth is just that. pump gas with the help of meth

I consider it pump gas with methanol injection.

I wouldnt call it race gas either since it is not on 100% meth. Its pump gas + meth which does not equal all out race fuel..

That's really what I was looking for. I didn't intend to directly compare it to 100% alky, just as far as octane and resistance to burn.

depends how much meth you're spraying vs how much 93 is being injected.... have to calculate the actual octane.

^^ true.. so what is the R+M/2 octane rating for 100% methanol anyways?

RON of Methanol is 113, MON is 116, so R+M/2 is 114.5. However, since octane is really resistance to burn, and water obviously has a very high resistance that bumps the octane in the mixture. Some reports show that pure water injected in with gasoline, at the cylinder, is 115 octane.

Wow man, I thought you were running 100% meth. I didn't know you were mixing water in with yours..

Yea, I'm about 70% meth, 30% water. The water, for me at least, is for the octane, and the meth is added insurance for fueling. Even though my injectors are below 75%.

Also, the "equivalent octane" will depend heavily on how much is injected. Some people only do 5% fuel replacement, while others to 60+%.

Why would you just use straight methanol? Wouldn't the cooling properties of the water mixed in with it as well as water not having an effective octane rating help in preventing detonation? I guess what I'm wondering is what the benefit is of straight methanol, just bump up octane alone and not have the cooling and detonation prevention? I'd like to know what FOR SURE makes the most power and why. I've read around on here and other websites and haven't found a concrete answer. Is every combination different or is there a general 'rule of thumb' as far as 50/50, 70/30, straight meth with what makes the most hp?

From what I've understood from talking to all the turbo buick guys, they have had best results with 80/20 mix of meth and water. The water is the anti-detonant and also boosts octane, where the meth boosts octane but is also the fuel. I've had negligible differences running straight meth, and it back fired in the intake one time because it is so combustable, added distilled water and no problems and 800RWHP through an A4.

I'm just wondering if some would consider that mix "race gas".

The meth adds just as much (if not more) cooling than water does.. Ive done a lot of research too, and for the most part, it seems there tend to be more people running 100% meth and more reasons for it over mixing water.

However, Trust brings up a good point. I'm thinking my old LS6 manifold blew up because of meth, so I wonder if adding a little distilled water to my mix would help prevent that from happening again..

Agreed, the cooling definitely comes from the meth, water really only adds octane which aids in less detonation, hopefully none. Water's resistance to burn (octane) is very high, no distributed properly it would only make sense to raise octane.

I don't think the water does anything to prevent detonation, other than the evaporative cooling, which Methanol does way better. Just because the water itself doesn't detonate doesn't mean it does anything to chemically prevent detonation of the fuel.

If you can fill the car up at any regular gas station pump its pump gas meth or no meth IMO.
