Sounds like youre running a front mount. Do you smell much of the exhaust?

they operate at different times, in theory, but usually you can hear both.

This may be the most responsive turbo on a f-body I have ever heard, what size engine and .ar?

It is a Bosch. If you need more info than that I will chase it up for you, please just let me know.

Heres a dyno vid from today but the camera really doesn't pick up how deafening the noise is, and thats only a twin 2.5" system.

So running an open wastegate causes the "jet engine sound"? How does that work? I always assumed that only rearmounts made that sound because the turbo was so close to the end of the exhaust.

rear mounts do that becuase look at where their WG is at... it would be useless to route it back to the downpipe and the down pipe end in half a foot. the sound is becuase the excess gasses are let to escape and it's creating that sound off of the turbo.

I REALLY need to buy an f body. The auto vs 6speed debate is the only thing holding me back.

xXxSilveradoxXx - It basically sounds like a monster exhaust leak once full boost is achieved. You'll have to find someone in person to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

I have never used one although according to my research and the popular opinion on this forum, they make great stuff and lots of people use them.

I think there is a little confusion on the f16 butt load of air screaming by sound vs the high pitch whistle you get from a rear mount car when referencing the "jet engine" sound.

I have a JGS 50mm WG, its very well made, it uses a piston instead of a diaphgram like some others do. The cons about it is that its a pain changing the springs out on the car, you have to be very carefull when putting the hat back on or you will tear the bottom o-ring.

Also for everyone running an open dump WG, does it throw off a wideband since its opening up before the O2 sensor? I know when you have an exhaust leak it will make the wideband read false lean.

No, it's not open anywhere near any amount of vacuum so it wouldn't get close to sucking in air.

It does pretty well for the combo, especially since everybody always repeats that a low compression motor is slow to come into boost or runs like garbage without boost. It's just an 8.5:1 compression 347 with a T76 .96 a/r.

Auto VS T56, the debate continues! I know auto is fastest but I wanted a 6-Speed, go figure.

I thought that was gonna be how an open wastegate would sound, like an exhaust leak. I didn't think it would make the "jet" sound!

Sounds like we need a front mount, open wastegate video for an accurate comparison.

Very good point! Although I'd rather have my car running a little rich than a little lean!

Dude is running a big 6.2 liter with a T70 turbo with a 1.00 a/r turbine housing.

Big Engine + Smallish Turbo = Response!
