Spectre air filters?
#23
I currently have a 4.25 pulley installed (7.65 crank) and will be spinning the engine to 6500, so my F1 should be spinning at 58.5k (older F1 with a 5.0 stepup ratio). I don't know where boost will be at yet, I'm still ironing out the bugs in the new setup, but it made 15-16psi on my old setup (346ci) with the same pulleys. Ill probably be a bit less now with the added cubes.

since u are spinning the the blower that hard, and if it is not right on the inlet of the charger u might see a little more drop.
that 346 was moving some air at at only 15-16psi at 67xxx rpms!! I was hoping my 496 is on the low teens when im done spinning 71000 u 8rib with that f1?

That 15-16psi before was with the stock ATI fbody hat and K&N filter in place. If I took the filter and hat off, it would jump up at least 2 psi, maybe more. Thats why that old hat/ (filter too maybe?) was such a restriction for the F1. Hence, the new hat, which needs a new bigger diameter inlet filter.. hence this dreadfully pirated thread that I don't think will ever get back on track... But maybe there isnt much hard data out there to support spectre as is now anyways.
I do have the mind to take the old hat with me to the dyno when I tune it and after we get it all lined out, I'd like to see the difference the old hat makes. The good thing about that spectre filter is that it includes reducers on the inlet so it is adjustable from 3" to 3.5" to 4". So I could be able to test the gains (if any) of strictly the stock fbody hat vs the truck hat. (which, BTW, hey EPP Bob, if you're listening, I want a percentage of all the sales you get from the truck hats for a month after I prove the truck hat is worth some good gains) That'd be great news for the procharger community since this test STILL hasn't been done on a dyno.
If I had time and patience, and money for the dyno operators, I'd love to be able to test 5 ways-
1) no filter or hat
2) f-body hat only and no filter
3) f-body hat with spectre filter
4) truck hat only and no filter
5) truck hat with spectre filter
If I REALLY got ambitious, I'd like to take it a step further and do a step 3a) f-body hat with k&n filter, and 5a) truck hat with k&n filter..
Those are the types of stats I'd love to see. However, I'm sure it could take an entire dyno session to just test those variables, and I seriously doubt that I'll have time to do all that when I go to get it tuned. The tune alone will take the majority of the day itself, so by the time we get it dialed in, I can't see anyone being so ambitious to do 6 more pulls for data gathering purposes.
Wish I had my own shop though, I'd be all about that type of testing

Yep, I actually bought the filter before I started this thread I just hadn't installed it yet because I was afraid to take it out of the package incase I heard bad feedback and wanted to return it to get my money back.. But, the one good reply I got from 9sectruck convinced me to go ahead and open it up and install it. I'll go snap a couple pics. Should be easy right now since the car is up on jackstands with the transmission out
