Something doesn't sound right, unless that filter you have is really that small.
I am now using a 5" filter. Seems to limit boost. When I take filter off and use screen I get more boost. I just got car so I am in process of finding better flowing filter. Just wondered what others use. I have several filters when weather gets dry I'm going to try them and see if I can get as much boost with filter as I do with no filter. Cubby hole where filter goes in is so small it just seems like it would have air restrictions. Also the S/c hat seems like it would be a restriction. I will try to use the Spectre filter u r using and see if that works.

Yes I am hoping to find a filter that works better than the screen.

Yes I make better boost without filter. Just trying to get filter to give me the same boost as no filter. I have a 9:5, 396ci, LS1 block, blower cam, AFR heads.

Hmm well you can try the spectre but it is a little bigger than the K&N 9".
What I did with the K&N, and the same should be able to be done with the Spectre:
  • I cut a piece of 3.5" aluminum pipe about 2.5 - 3" long.
  • Clamped the filter to half of thatpipe.
  • Other side of the pipe I clamped 8" or 9" of wire reinforced flexible tubing. I got it from my local hydraulic supply shop on the cheap. If you don't have this get some or you'll need to find something to make the slight drop from above the intercooler to the hat.
  • Other end of the duct clamped to the inlet hat.

This allowed the filter to sit in the fender well on the other side of the pipe that goes up from the IC to the engine bay. You have to lower the intercooler to get the filter up there then put the intercooler back up in place, it is a tight fit.

I don't know if I trimed by flexible duct too much for use on the twins anymore or not, I'm no longer using it when I swapped out the standard hat for the truck hat. The boost gauge says I didn't pick anything up from the swap, but then I'm not maxing out my blower either. Anyway mine is cut down to 7-7.5", you're welcome to it and the metal coupler if you'd like, but like I said it might be a tad short now.

I swapped out the standard hat for the truck hat. .
Thanks for the info. I will have to try this. I have the flex tubing and pipe so when weather gets better I will try this.
Will the truck hat fit a 2000 TA with the D-1SC ? I think EPP told me it would not fit with my twin coolers.

Aster - What size idler pulley is the small one in your custom bracket set up? It looks like if we use that one we can still use the same number of bolts to hold the blower to the J bracket.

Is that small pulley a custom one off or available somewhere?

It is 1.75" diameter and does allow for access to all the bolt holes.

It is a custom pulley that I have made specifically for my brackets.

Can you give us some specs/dimensions on it?

It is a double bearing pulley 1.75" diameter x 1.25" wide. The two bearings are centered inside the pulley. One end has a lip to stop the bearings, the other side has a groove for a snap ring. Then you have to decide how you want to support the bearing. Mine is a two piece standoff to sandwhich the pulley in place.

I won't post up drawings for my bracket components, I hope you can understand why.

I understand, the question I should have asked first was do you sell the components? specifically the pulley and standoff? Can you make that pulley work with a single standoff rather than the two piece similar to what Chad had made?

To do just that pulley and standoff separately I'd need enough interest to make a batch of them on their own. I believe the two piece standoff is better for the pulley than doing a single with washers sliding over the top.

If nothing else, this should give a pretty accurate ballpark idea of belt length. Just for grins, I also measured the belt wrap on the head unit and the crank. Here are the results I measured in inventor:

Crank Pulley/ Head Unit/ Tensioner/ Idler/ Belt Length/ SC Wrap/ Crank Wrap

7.65/4.25/2.5/3.0/42.93/229°/272° <--(this belt length verifies my CAD file is pretty damn close- reference my original measurement was 42.75-43.125 with a tape measure- this falls smack dab in the middle of those measurements)

7.65/4.25/2.5/2.5/42.62/225°/266°

7.65/3.7/2.5/3.0/41.85/221°/272°
7.65/3.7/2.5/2.5/41.56/217°/266° (looks like I'll possibly be able to use my 41.5 belt with this setup once I'm ready to pulley down)

7.65/3.55/2.5/3.0/41.56/218°/272°
7.65/3.55/2.5/2.5/41.28/215°/266°

7.65/3.4/2.5/3.0/41.28/216°/272°
7.65/3.4/2.5/2.5/41.00/213°/266°

7.65/3.1/2.5/3.0/40.72/212°/272°
7.65/3.1/2.5/2.5/40.45/209°/266°

Again, remember that the stock procharger idler is 2.5", and the stock accessory idler is 3.0. Hope these results help for some of you guys. If anyone wants me to put in any more pulley sizes, let me know and I'll get them for ya.
Could you post up belt size for 7.65/4.00/2.5/2.5 and if it available?

ChevyChad,
I'm sending my standoff to my machine shop but can't fiqure how
you came up with the 75mm length?
The longest version is 2.75" for the M6's which I have.
There was also a 2.65" for the autos with the Cooler line bracket mounted.
And the 2.5" or 2.4" for 6 Rib setups.

I'll let ya know the approximate belt size for the 7.65/4.00/2.5/2.5 when I get home this evening. As far as the 75mm length, I was just trying to source a common length that could be easily cut down to the size needed. I doubt you will find any place that would sell hex standoff stock in a 63.5mm or a 67.3mm length.. Well, you can, but it would then be 'custom' and you would pay a ton for them.

Thanks. I thought I was missing something.
I have been dealing with this machinest for years through my work.
He does great work at a fair price but may take a little time to get them.
He said he can get 1018 steel or the original aluminum in hex or rolled in 3/4"
for around the same price but he has rolled in stock.
So I am trying to get him to mill mine down and also make a sample piece
out of the rolled and just mill 2 slots so you can use a wrench on it.

I will let you guys know how it goes and what price he come up with
if its ok with chevychad. I dont want to step on any toes.

I was revisiting this thread to see what size belt I'd need for my 3.7 pulley since I will be putting it on here soon for my upcoming 3 bar SD tune. After searching this thread, I realized I had not posted the links to the belt sizes, so I thought these may be helpful for anyone else interested in searching on what belt sizes are available.

Gates belts here:

http://www.gatespowerpro.com/Comerge...TOKEN=54684150

*dang, cant get the direct link to work. Click on the link above, then click "Belts", and on the next page, click "Micro-V® AT® Belts". Then, type the size in the search field you are looking for. For example, to find all the 42.X" belts, type "K08042*"

Also, make sure to click on the part number of the belt you are looking at to verify the effective length. Sometimes it is slightly different than the part number would suggest. For example, the effective length of a K080427 is not a 42.7" as you'd think, its really 42.87".

And incase you cant find something close there, also check out the goodyear gatorback belts here:

http://www.goodyearep.com/ProductsDetail.aspx?id=3128

*make sure you are looking at the effective length of the belt here as well.

So this is my winter project...along with a strut brace with heim joints on each end going from the motor to one of the open holes on the head unit.

Chevy Chad - did you find a 3" idler worked better or the 2-1/2"? I have the procharger 6 rib idler...which is just wide enough for an 8 rib belt...but I don't know if it needs to be a little wider than the belt or not??? Also...it is 2-1/2" diameter on the largest OD of the pulley (raised ridges on pulley - not the actual surface the belt rides on) is this correct?

I have not tried a 2.5" OD pulley yet. Ive only been using the stock idler that is 3". The stock idler is actually the exact same width as the belt I'm using, but it does not have ridges on it. If I were you, I'd see about getting the ridges ground off the pulley you have. Either that, or make damn sure your alignment is spot on..

As for the dimension of the OD, yes, you're correct- you should be measuring the surface that the belt will be riding on, not the top part of the ridges. You can use the 2.5" chart for your belt guide though, it should be very close. I doubt you're gonna find a belt that is exactly what you are looking for anyways, so just use this to get close estimate. You will have a little adjustability in the tensioner, but not as much as before the extra idler. Good luck with everything man
