Thanks for the help man! I am just going to run the 3" idler as you have been running it and I know it should work. Now...just need to find a 3" idler.

Thanks again!

No problem man. The stock fbody idler puley is 3" (its what Im using). Its like $24 at Oreilly. Part Number: XXXXX

***edit, correct part number for the wide idler to be used for the 8 rib is 38041 and its $41 from Oreilly***

Apparently, there are 2 different ones as found out by pdasterly on pages 12-13 of this thread. My apologies for the confusion.

***edit #2*** Alternatively, there is a similar 3" pulley from autozone that is $17. Part number for it is 231107.

When you used the stock idler was It the original design pulley or the new design. I know gm revised the alternator bracket because when I ordered a new bracket to modify for my turbo kit the old idler wouldnt fit so I had to order the new style idler, which is the only one they carry now.

I really have no clue. Whats the difference? Either way though, it should work, worst case you'd just have to space it out or in with a washer or two.

last question before I have this done to my bracket. What is keeping the second idler pulley from rubbing the j bracket. Even with a machined standoff would some washers be needed to keep pulley from rubbing bracket?
And last some please take my money and modify my stand My local machinst is on vaction

Of course you need washers to space it to where you need it to be and to keep it from contacting the bracket.. I take it you have not read this whole thread LOL

Second, I cant take your money right now, I'm on vacation myself. In Brazil.

I thought someone asked the question before about how to keep it from contacting the bracket..

*edit: found it. See post #58. Also, post #101 shows them in the diagram

On Aster's setup, that short piece is just a spacer.

Actually on my bracket the short piece and the hex standoff have shoulders that support the two bearings used in my smaller pulley, one through each bearing. The two parts also sandwich on either side locking the pulley in place so it can not move.

Thats what I call a spacer .. But I just didnt want to type out all the details. Your bracket is awesome, and it was what inspired me to put the extra idler on my stock one. Someday I'll actually put some effort into fitting up a spring loaded tensioner onto the stock bracket as well.

How tight are you guys tightening your belts now? I was hoping this would lighten up a lil on the bear load.

I tighten mine down until I can barley fit my finger between the two pullies, tighten the jam nut and give a 1/4 turn

I get mine pretty tight. Not as tight as I did before without the extra idler, but I still get it hella tight.

That would require extensive modification for clearancing the radiator area. My inlet hat is already contacting my radiator, so I cant imagine trying to gain any more room and keeping the AC. If you ditched the AC and did a vertical radiator you may be able to, but I'm not sure. I am not gonna sacrifice my AC on my street car.

Brute speed has the 12 rib. I was looking at the crank pulley and it looks like it spaces the ribs about an 1 1/2 away from the balancer before the ribs begin. http://shop.brutespeed.com/ATI-DCxxx...?categoryId=-1 Looks like its more designed for a SC that sits on the other side with the other accessories. Still looks like it could be made to work tho. I think I'm gonna check into a cog setup first.
