Cost of the C5R?
I'm seeing more and more people use them, which I' really excited about. But everyone is treating the cost like it's top secret information. What are C5R short and long blocks going for?

How much do those motors you suggested cost? I know nothing of their prices.

there is a guy on CZ28.com with a 383ci LT1 with good heads, that made 580rwhp NA, and got ~20mpg on the highway. NA motors get bettery fuel economy from what I have found, due to compression mainly. my turbo motor is 8.8:1, vs my old NA motor that was 12:1.

You can purchase the C5-R block at Scoggin Dickey www.sdpc2000.com for $6200.00
The crank, will need to be a 4.00" crank,
You can use Lunati, $2200(Forged), Scat, $2200(Forged), Modex $2800 (Billet), there are others like Oliver ($3000)etc...
You will need to use, 6.100 or 6.125 rods. As everyone is using 6.125, the6.100 is a better choice because you can lower the wrist pin and have more piston surface thickness for things like blower, and nitrous. Rods will run from $500-$1500. Do not use Alumunum, These will stretch when exposed to heat unless this is a race application.
Now to answer the myth on the C5-R heads, They do flow 100 cfm over a stock ls6. however, there are a number of complications when using them, first cost is $1200 per head and they are unfinished. SPDC2000.com, then you will spend about $2200 on machine work to get them done. Bill Cradock of BCE in Nevada is the only choice for machine work on these heads. Do not believe anyone else on this. You have to have experience with the heads in order to do a good job on them and at $5000 a set (And that is the real cost) you want an expert doing this.
On to the problems. These heads do not work with the stock manifold. You have to use a sheet metal intake and they are about $2500, More Performance can have them made as well as LS1speed.com.
If you are going to buy this block, do not skimp on the internals.
Go to Katechengines.com, they developed the internals for this block in the C5-R racing program for GM, before Pratt and Miller took it over,
Get the Moldex Billet Crank, Carillo Rods, and Go to Diamond to get the pistons, Chris at Diamond used to work for Katech.
The is nothing wrong with Lunati, or any of the other companies, and they are good parts, but they are not the same standard as these parts. Carillo makes the undisputed best Connecting Rod on the planet. PERIOD. Billet will outlast forged any day of the week in any race. You could use any piston, but the guy who helped develop the Race block internals, started his own pistong company.Hmmm.
I been through this so if you have any questions and want the facts, you can email me at lunapark@perigee.net
Hope this helps

c5r blocks are pretty pricy these days, hopefully they will come down in the future
I chose a resleaved block for my 427 engine build....just need to finish it first
. For me, the c5r was overkill even for the dp nitrous shot i'll be using. remember, for the majority of us, the block breakage is rarely a problem....i'm much more worried about lifting a head.
