Default Smoking from exhaust? ideas?

I just got finnished doing a turbo build and my motor prior to the build did not smoke and had perfect compression. I'm thing this is a pcv issue possibly due to me getting new valve cover and I did two -8 lines off the vave covers into a catch can. The can itself billows smoke which is something else I have never seen happen. Oil may also be the issue as I used 15w-40 race oil. Things i have checked..the turbo is not leaking oil into the exhaust and it drains just fine. Car still needs tuned a bit but i already changed my injector tables so it shouldn't be too rich as the wideband is reading around 14.2 at idle when warmed up. Any ideas would be of great help and maybe someones had this issue before. Thanks and heres a pic of the setup if that helps

puffing from the catch can? Sounds like blow by? But if its new maybe it needs more time to seat the rings better...

not new but the same ls6 i was running all motor before never had any issues before and i haven't even driven it hard or started tuning it with the turbo so i dunno. I did read somewhere if you don't baffle the valve cover it can cause the breather to smoke.

I guess the fact that the motor was fine before and didn't smoke at all makes me think it has to be ok. Its only been idled and never driven in boost yet.

Is it a stock LS6 or forged?

I ask because there is a known issue on the C5 Z06's with the rings hanging up. I can't remember the fix now though.

It's just smoking out of the catch can? Your PCV system is only the lines going to the catch can and the intake ports are blocked off right?

I'd place an steel wool pad in the top of the can, the one that doesn't have any soap in it that can be found at your local grocery store. I had the same problem and did that and all is well now.

When you put the brillow pad under the filter that should stop the smoke from the catch can. You did block off all the other PCV connections correct?

For the smoke out of the exhaust, did you upgrade your springs? Do you have any oil in your intake?

yea all old ports are blocked. I will have to look in the intake but spings were upgraded a long time ago with new seals. I'm starting to think maybe the drain is the culprit. Its almost parallel with the ground...not ideal by any means but i didn't see any signs of oil leakage in the turbo. I would expect to find oil in the intake and exhaust of the turbo housings correct? drain is -12an btw

If it's parallel then I'd say that's the smoking out the exhaust problem right there. So you will either have to tap lower but still above the oil level or get a pump. Then clean up the intake and intercooler if there is any oil in their so it doesn't adversely affect your tuning.

What if there are no signs of oil on the intake or exhaust side. Could it still be leaking oil in on the exhaust side and just burning it cause the compressor side was clean as can be and had no oil in it at all.

Default Pull the TB !

I had a simular (**** U ATION )LOL when i did my build and installed my brand new Rossler stage 3 auto tranny LOLThis bitch started smoking! Here ,,its was the vac modulator inside the tranny was leaking and tranny fluid was being sucked threw the vac line and into the intake Not sure if your an auto or not, but figuired it was good info just incase. Pull the TB and see what the intake looks like inside then go from there ?If nothing in the intake ,ide say its the turbo drain setup Definatly!Or hopefully you havent been to a Pittsburgh Steeler game lately with that baby LOL Make sure you aint got a terrible towel stuffed in your exhaust pipe LOL Just messen man ,,I know your a Bengels fan LOL

On another note,,,Just to double check the drain .With your oil level full or at where ever you keep it,,, disconnect your drain hose from the oil pan to see if any oil comes out of the oil pan. If it does ,,,then you found the problem because even with the engine off the turbo oil still has to be able to drain or it will collect in the turbo and seep past the turbo seals causeing your smokeing issue!

I'd do a compression check on it. You remember the whisping of smoke on mine? Yeah a few month later as the smoke got a little worse=hole in #7.

Just wondering. Have you checked the spark plugs for any signs of oil? Is your turbo a brand new unit or used?

If your turbo drain is almost parallel to the ground that is going to be a problem.

no oil on plugs intake clean... oil drain has oil sitting in it. Gonna do a new oil drain this week. Should fix it. No hole in number seven as of yet. lol
