Default MSD 4bar map sensor

I have priced out that cobalt 2bar (50.00) and an old GM 3bar (75.00). I have a MSD part#2314 4bar map sensor left over from my timing twister set up that I never ran.

My question is will there be a problem running a higher bar sensor than I need and because its a 5volt ref. sensor {same as factory} should I be able to plug it in and not have to retune for it?

you will have to retune it.
The thing is, that all the sensor work on a 0-5V scale.

So a 1 bar sensor goes from 0KPA - 100KPA IIRC in that scale.

When you go to a 'bigger' MAP sensor you lose 'resolution'. So in that same 0-5V range, you now read, 0-200KPA, etc etc.

So for instance, in a 2 bar map, it might output 100KPA @ 2.5V, where as a 4 bar sensor would output the same 100kpa as 1.25V.

Got the picture?

You have a 98; you don't have many options.

You have 2bar SD and that's it with the stock PCM. With some clever trickery, you could make that MAP work, but it's pretty useless with all of that overhead and will serve to drastically decrease fuel resolution in the VE.

If you aren't running an aftermarket EMS, just get the 2bar sensor that you need.
