The cost of boost for the LS1.
Some of my ford friends do not believe it cost so much money to get 600rwhp plus out of a LS1 safely. I keep trying to explain to them a good 346ci longblock alone is going to cost around 5 to 6k. Then add on all the stuff you are going to need for a good supercharger or turbo setup. My best guest is going to be 12k plus. What do you guys think?

well you can do a budget build liek mine, as it was substatially cheaper. but other things that will jack up the price would be your drivetrain componets which would need to be done.
if you dont mind your drivetrain going look what you can do with a stock engine, 600rwp for a stock engine is now possible with race gas, but how long will it last?

I think the TT Kit is like 4500 to 5k with the T76 upgrade. According to some you will still need to modify the plumbing and use a bigger intercooler to support anything over 550rwhp with that kit. Plus, that kit does not come with any fuel requirements. So add atleast another grand to that.. So I think we are looking at close to the QMP kit once all said and done.

I know going with a blower isnt cheap.... I have about $9500 into my new motor..including headers, fuel system,LS6 intake,Heads, and my 383 short block. Then about $5500 into my ATI kit trying to get no slip.... then add the price of a cog set-up.I would also add in there the price of a good rearend and tranny to take the abuse you are going to throw at it. Then the suspension to make it stick... Your right the LS1 isnt cheap to try to get power out of. I in no way went the cheap build up though and bought some things more then once.....

I learned the hard way that 11 psi and a stock 98 bottom end dont get along well. Stock heads, just a small cam and headers. Ran like that for about 5K miles. Ran like that with three cracked ring lands and still got 16.8 miles to the gallon. Blown head gasket is what finally did it.
Probably like alot of people on here i have more money into the car then i paid for it. It really doesnt bother me much when i think about what i spent because i enjoy it. Alot of my friends say..( Why didnt you just build a strong short block and spray the **** out of it and run 10's all day) I want the power 24-7 and i want to see if i can do it...... Ill add a little spray if im close to my goal. I still have to redue my fuel system buy a 12 bolt and a TH400 so ill have way more then 20K in it. I would like to run one 9 sec pass with the 4L60E before it dies but if i dont im not worried. What else am i going to do with my money right.......i cant sleep sometimes thinking of this ****....... Do i have a problem??? ha ha

I used nice round numbers for simplicity.
So please don't argue over the exact numbers:
Supercharger - $5600
Fuel Pump - $150
Injectors - $400
Forged shortblock - $5000
Heads - $2000
Cam - $400
Headers/Y-pipe - $800
Rear-end - $2300
Driveshaft - $400
Dyno tune - $400
Roughly 3 weeks (120 hours) labor @ $50/hr - $6000
Total: $23,450
Total minus labor (i.e. do everything yourself): $17,450
I'd say $20,000 would be a nice round number for a bullet-proof 500-600RWHP LS1 using a supercharger, without cutting corners.
Keep in mind that the weak link would still be the M6.

well, I know that if I had it to do over again, I would have built a stroker motor, and been done with it.
FI is too costly, and I have had to do somethings that I didnt want to do with the car, trying to get every last HP out fo the Turbo Tech kit. Im going to be done soon. Hopefully the radiator leanig back another inch due to the intercooler wont hurt anything
thanks

If I could do it all over again, I would have done a bullet-proof stroker motor with a 200-shot of direct-port NOS.
FI is cool and everything, but I could have had a down payment on a 5-bedroom house by now. And I'm still not anywhere near as fast as I had hoped.
At least I get the cool looks driving down the street, for what its worth.
