Default Piston Suggestions

Well i suspected my stock 5.3l was going to hold up ok to 10 psi, but when my wastegate decided to mess up and let it go to 20 psi the ring lands gave out!! Boy was she bad while she lasted though! Well i have a crate 5.3l lm7 with a speartech fuel managment and 60 lbs injectors, the turbo system is a custom twin rear-mount with To4b garretts, the spool-time was a just a little lagy but she ran great, but it detonated and here i am, i want some opinions, i was think about just having my machine shop bore and install a set of diamond turbo pistions. With the addition of a meth kit and 93 octane with this hold 15psi regularly??

I'd go Weisco. thats what I'll be using on my D1SC build. they make some great pistons, especially for boost.

With the heavier pistons your rods wont last too much longer, it would be a good idea to just do your rods, piston, bearings, rod bolts, and head bolts while you are in there. Spending money now will save money in the future. Your lucky you still have your block.

Time to forge it all and do it right Best of luck.

Default Piston Selection

I was pretty concerned about the block until i pulled the head off, the coolant was still steaming yesterday as we popped the head off, but to my relief there is a very very minor scratch on the cylinder wall and that is it! I guess this is what i get for using a cheap ebay wastegates!! what brand rods should i use? i know arp hardware, thats already figured in!!!

I like the Compstar rods myself. But I have seen others use Scat & Eagle without issues.

I run wiseco in my 99 TT but do get some piston slap when cold. I understand its also likely from having bigger clearances on piston to wall since did tell engine builder that was planning up to 1000rwhp with boost /spray. It does go away when it warms up and heck a lot of ls1 have as much noise or more stock.

Still wondering if there are any pistons out ,forged ones that won't slap at all cold.

no piston slap with my Diamound -8.6cc boost pistons

I heard the Scat H-Beam Rod have issues, finish and not matched, something i just heard , i was going to get a set of the Scat 6.1 with the stock 945 pin size H-beams .

I am running the eagle 6.125 H beams 927 Pin in my forged LS6 , they are nice rods, and my engine builder said he never had a issue with them, and i only have the standard 8740 rod bolts, the standard rod bolts have been used in 1,000 hp builds

We use Diamond pistons and Manley rods for our builds but have used Mahle and Scat stuff in the past. We're really happy with the build from both Diamond and Mahle. Both offer great reliability when leaned on and are whisper quiet.

Ha! You should hear my stock LM7 in my Silverado, damn near sounds like a PowerStroke on cold days!

I hope the Scat Connecting Rods don't have issues, this is the first I've heard about it!

Make sure which ever pistons you get that they are made of 2618-T61 aluminum. It is the strongest for boost.

Guys most of the pistons you are talking about are good-

But put a bad tune or use bad parts like the op did and you will still have a bad result at the end-
