Default I cant catch a break...

Im cleaning the coolant out of my head bolt holes so I can put on my 317s. I was using the paper towel technique on ls1howto because compressed air wasnt working for me. Heres the deal, I pull out the paper towel and chunk of it is stuck in the hole. I tried getting it with a screwdriver and even chop sticks and I cant get the ******* thing. Its soaking wet so it makes it that much harder.

I think Im going to light this thing on fire and just collect the insurance money on it.

hmm.....burn the paper towel not the engine...LOL then take your air to it to blow out the ashes...... also you said it was the coolant line? why not flush it with water or something until it dissolves out...

good luck

I feel your pain i just installed a new motor. It took forever. It seemed like I was doing everything twice.
How about coat hanger with a small hook in the end.

Im thinking of fire but its in the head bolt hole so theres not much oxygen lol. Im thinking of bending the tip of a flat head so its like a hook or something. The water isnt a bad idea but Im not sure how well paper towel dissolves.

Just take a few minutes and step away from the car and come back later, trust me we have all had this major frustration with our cars at one point or another. Next time do it the easy way and take a shop vac to the water pump holes and suck the coolant out of the heads that way. It works like a charm and the heads come off without a drop

Try a wooden skewer if you have one. That will give you a sharp tip to work with at least. Metal coat hanger was also a good idea.

I do dumb stuff all the time, take carb cleaner, use the plastic straw and get it all the way under the paper towel and down to the bottom of the bolt hole when you spray it the force against the bottom of the hole will push the paper towel and and float it out.

damn thats a good one lol

or go to a weld shop and see if theyll give you a TiG rod, a small diameter one preferably stainless, then bend a good small hook on the end. the MiG filler wire .035 or bigger works good too

try compressed air again? get a piece of 3/16 brake line and braze it to your air nozzle. works like a champ usually... good lux!

The best way to clean out the holes is with a Chase or factory bolt with 2 sides ground off and than blow it out.

you can also buy a pack of misc shaped 'dental picks' at harbor freight for $3. They'll easily fit down the bolt hole and have the hooks on the end that you're after.
