Default D1SC or T-trim V3

I am in the process of doing some research for a project I am working on. I'm building a 69 Camaro, and want to do a supercharger on it. I'm trying to decide between a Procharger setup, or a Vortech setup. I was originally leaning towards a Procharger D1SC, but may be able to get a better price on a Vortech T-trim.

Some details on the build:
Engine - LS2 6.0L stock bottom end, LS3 Heads, LS3 Intake, cam will be a blower friendly grind.
Exhaust - Hooker headers, 3 inch X, 2.5 inch tailpipes
Trans - T56 Magnum
Rear - 12 bolt, 3.73 gears
Fuel - Bosch 044 intank pump, 60 or 80lb injectors

Ultimately I am looking to get 650-700rwhp on the stock bottom end. I don't want to blow the thing up, but want to achieve 650. Eventually the bottom end may get forged and I'll shoot for 750, but that is a ways away.

I plan on going with a FMIC setup on it also to help things out.

Anyway, if you've read this far I appreciate it, and let me know what you think. Thanks!!

I think either head unit will meet your goals. I would personally choose the D1SC as it will have a touch more potential than the T-trim which means you won't be stressing it as hard down the road when you want the future goals.... although either head unit should make it there... Also, the D1SC is going to be louder at idle than the T-trim, so that may also factor in depending on what you are looking for. Hope this helps!

With all the money you will eventually spend getting this engine in the car, you might consider adding new rods and pistons up front and being done with it. Stock LS1 cranks can hold this kind of power, I suspect the LS2 could as well.

I am more of a fan of the Procharger - feel their air to air intercoolers are a great match for a street car. Assume you are planning an intercooler if you are shooting for this level of hp.

Thanks Superman09! It does seem that people have been having better results with the D1SC. And it seems like that blower has a bit more potential in it.

I'm having a hard time finding any info on the T-trim on Vortech's website too.

I definitely plan on doing an intercooler on it. As for the forging, I'm basically at the point of sucking it up and going for the blower (what I ultimately wanted in the car) or drawing the line on major expenses and focusing on stuff just to get it together.

So as much as I 'know' it ultimately needs to be forged, I plan on being careful for a while and tackle that down the road after the thing is together and running.

right on. You are simply asking on the head unit right and piecing the rest of the kit together as it is a project car correct?

I see what you are talking about as well on their site with no T-trim V3 on there. I am pretty sure you could just look at the V1 T-trim... plus the 825 it says rings a bell. Only change I believe from V1 to V2 was a different cut on the gears (V1 will be much louder than a V2) and from V2-V3 they went self contained oiling versus V1's and V2's not being. Either way, if you can get either for the same price, I'd choose the D1SC simply as I like it being louder and I have seen better results with it over the Vortech units.... however would I turn down a T-Trim V3 for a good deal, no way!

D1SC. No question. You probly could get a better deal on the Vortech, but try to get the D1SC

I agree with all said lol. I suggest the D1 as it will help and make your current and next goals easier to achive. Price is always a issue though. I've run my D1 well over 30K with no issues yet.

wow.. the general consensus seems to be to go with the D1SC. Not too surprising I guess.

Superman09 - Yeah, the plan is to piece the parts together. Right now I'm leaning towards an A&A bracket for the vettes, 8 rib setup, then piece the intercooler/piping together.

Sooo, any sponsors doing good deals on Prochargers??

+1 on the D1. I was recently debating between the Vortech and the D1 myself...the most glaring difference overall was the lack of support for the Vortech. You can throw a rock and hit someone with a D1 around here.

Check with Bob at Exotic Performance Plus on deals on the Procharger stuff. Or you could check out the classifieds here on the forum, which is what I did.

Yours is going to be a custom job, I suspect, so you could spec a large A2A for your camaro and use either head unit with the best bracket setup for whichever side you want the blower on. I have a T-trim V-2 with a custom IC on a 383 that's putting down 660rwhp at 12.8# at 6400rpm. It's a capable unit. Lots of possibilities for the IC nowadays. I don't think either company has a full bolt-on for the 69.

DeltaT,

Thats an impressive Malibu you have put together there. There is a retrofit kit that Vortech sells, but I've seen mixed results of how it fits on various cars. I figured I would be better piecing things togethr on it.

Looks like I have a few calls to make about pricing!

Thanks everyone!

Hey Fran!

I actuall came in and spoke to you several months ago about the car. We discussed the takeout engine deal, roots supercharger vs centrifugal, etc. Don't know if you recall or not.

I'd ask this on some other sites. Procharger wins every time on this site vs anything...lol. You will reach your goal easily either way as mentioned above.

Ls1x2,
How do you like the t-trim on your car? What kind of power are you putting out with it?

I had been doing some reading over on Corvette forum and it seems as if the procharger guys all put out just a little bit more then the others. Could just be the ones I found though.

That may be the case. Not sure. I'm happy with my t-trim v3. It is very quiet. I'm running a stock bottom end, stock heads, 218/228 cam, stock catback, 1 7/8 kooks with cats. I made 691/592 in humid 102* dyno room. It went 10.6@138 with a soft launch on DR's.

Jim, since it will probably be a custom setup, you may also want to take a serious look at a separate belt setup for the blower. I'd recommend a 10-rib at a minimum, it will give you room to grow.
